Gathright's time may finally be here

I have been hearing Joey Gathright trade rumors for two years now. When you have a speedster like Carl Crawford on the team, Joey Gathright is expendable. Joey is Carl lite. Or, the man of steal. The Marlins are interested. They seem to have an abundance of pitching, so they make a good trading partner.

He's expendable now because Rocco is healthy and he has little-to-no value for the Rays as a glorified singles hitter.

I'll miss his pinch running but...

I more than welcome the pitching. With an improved pitching staff, hopefully the Rays will not be in as many late game situations where they absolutely have to advance the runner into scoring position to tie or win a ball game.

Having said this though, I will never forget the night the Rays went .500 (or was it plus .500 - gee, I guess I have kinda forgotten) versus the Florida Marlins. This was the season of their incredible winning streak, two years back. The game was a battle and I remember the Rays either brought in Gathwright or he was walked or something but you just knew he was going to steal second and there was little the Marlins could do about it. He successfully stole 2nd and the Rays managed a hit that scored him and the Rays eventually won the game.

It is funny and kinda of sad but this was probably one of the best times I can remember about being a Rays fan. The time the Rays managed to get to .500 midseason. Hopefully one day I will look back and laugh and tell my kids about the days when the Rays weren't very good and the kids will shake their heads in disbelief. :D
