A Rod
don't think so, not yet anyways, but he was put on the dominican's roster..The DR should have a pretty good team based on that roster

Also
Cantu is likely to be on Mexico's roster.

Hrm...
Is Gomes eligible for that team as well?

Rocco
The next tournament won't be until 2009, then every four years like soccer or the Olympics.

Even still
He'll be 28-29 by then, I'm sure that he'd rep Italy.

Hrm...
Doesn't Wheeler of the Astros have some history with the Rays as well. I know that he's the son-in-law of Dewayne Staats.

Yeah
I was just looking at the world rosters, not the US.

by Not That Chuck on Jan 20, 2006 2:44 PM EST up reply actions

yeah
Is it just me or has A-Rod really show you why its hard to have interest in this classic. Instead of being excited about playing this event, he has switched his mind 6 times.

Thats true about Wheeler.

Excitement about the WBC
I don't think MLB is really aiming to get the American/Canadian fan too excited, we see 162 games a season. I think this is more for the other countries like Japan, DR, cuba and italy. And a way to spread baseball worldwide, especially since there will be no Olympics for Baseball players

Not going Dutch
This article contains two  bits of humorous reportage; (1) a note that one major leaguer has no idea why he's on the Dutch roster, since he's half-Irish and half-Mexican; and (2) further down, a player who might cause the invention of the phrase "Player to be re-named later" (PTBRL?).
