Dodger's looking at CC?

I was surfing around and peeked at the truth & rumors from cnnsi.com and saw this:
The Dodgers are "one of several teams expressing interest" in Carl Crawford and the Rays "probably wouldn't move him before the July 31 nonwaiver deadline unless they received an overwhelming offer -- and even then they might balk" given Crawford's long-term "club-friendly" contract. -- St. Petersburg Times

Unless it is extremely overwhelming, like 2 ML starters and a couple of minor leaguers, there should be no way on this earth CC should be traded...

I agree.. moving Crawford would be a mistake
Dray fans are falling for CC.  Fans young and old just collected his figurine not three weeks ago.  I think letting go a player that looks better and better everyday at the major league level would be a HUGE mistake.  Plus, Rays wouldn't be in a position to receive top pitchers as the Rays would want to pick up their salaries.  The Rays instead would need great young major league pitchers who still are under contract for many years at a low salary and there aren't many of those out there.  Crawford for top minor league pitching prospects would be a mistake as well.  Rays have lots of young pitching talent in minor leagues and hopefully by trading away a Lee, Huff, or Lugo mid year the Rays could pick up another two or three top prospects.

Pitching prospect
Niemann and Jackson arethe only pitching prospect that project to be a #2 starter or better out of A ball in our organization and both have signifigant issues.  We have some nice pitching prospects, but nothing even close to Billingsley.  Don't get me wrong, I really like Niemann as a prospect.  In fact, he's was my #2 prospect in the organization in my Top-25 for Raysbaseball.com, and he still is, but he's an injury risk.

Now, I'm not advocating a trade for Crawford but if the right deal comes along, you have to pull the trigger.  This is way more than his actually value, but if we deal him, we have to get more because of his cheap salary and fan backlash, but if the Dodgers came along and offered a package Billingsley, Broxton, and either Joel Guzman (could play 3B) or Andy LaRoche, the Rays could not, and should not pass that up.  The Dodgers certainly are one team that could put together a package big enough to get CC.  Now, that senario is highly unlikely, but it is certainly possible.

All I'm saying, is that everyone has a price, CC's is high, but it could happen.

CC Trade backlash would be huge
I would hate to think Rays would make such a deal but I see your point.  I do think it would be a very bad move though.  Fans who want to watch something now at the majore league level I think would lose some faith in the organization and would tune out.  I don't have a problem with Rays getting prospects but lets make moves using some of our highly touted minor leaguers.  So using the same argument, one could argue that Young could be on the trade block.  I dunno.  At some point, Rays have to decide who franchise will be built around and plan on having them around for 2-3 years.  Casual fans build loyalty to the product on the field, not the product in Durham or in lower levels.

Oh no, Crawford just went down holding his knee!  Doh!  Lets hope it is not serious.

Backlash
The thing about the deal I mentioned, is that it is the perfect deal (and one of the only one's that could work out for the Rays').  Every single player I mentioned would immediately take over a position on the big club.  It would take a bunch of good, near ready prospects.

Billingsley would be an upgrade over 4/5th of our rotation RIGHT NOW.  Guzman or LaRoche are both better than Huff, and Broxton would immediately be our best reliever.

CC is a great player, but his production could be made up by Dukes for the most part.  He's not CC, but long term, he has a chance to be a star, and possibley a Super-star.  He's one of the best hitting prospects in the minors, period.  And the productioned gained by having Billingsley in the rotation, and JB in the pen would far and away make up for CC's loss. It would take the perfect storm, like what I've mentioned, which is why it is so unlikely.

Sigh.... looks like we dodged a bullet
but I expect will rest a few days this weekend as he looks to be sore.  Wow, Umps miss another call that goes against Rays.  Rays continue to get bad breaks and we're lucky it didn't cost the Rays CC.

Denials, Denials..........
I was readin' the Times or the Tribune today, forget which one, but somewhere in there, Maddon specifically said he did not want to trade CC at any costs. You can't get a more definitive statement from someone that high up.

hmm
I agree though. CC is tradeable because of Young and Dukes and Baldelli. I tend to think we'd be better off without Gathright though.

For some reason when I look at crawford I think of the 1988 version of Barry Bonds...and then I start to think of the future.
