Cesar Izturis

From Roto:
Pirates declined shortstop Cesar Izturis' $5.45 million club option for 2008.
It was an easy call. Izturis, who finished up a three-year deal he originally signed as a Dodger, gets a $300,000 buyout. He could serve as a stopgap starter at shortstop in Tampa Bay or St. Louis. It's also possible that he'll become a utilityman on a contender.

Star-divide

I would be interested in what he would want to come here and play SS. He is pretty good defensively and not terrible offensively. He may come cheaper than some others and would not cost us a player in a trade.

Not interested
I would rather look in-house or trade for Jack Wilson than pursue an offensively inept Izturis for a bloated salary.

Re: Not interested
May be able to get him for a decent salary because we may be one of the only places that offer him a full time gig.

That's possible
In which case, signing him isn't such a bad idea. But I just don't think that he'll settle for a reasonable salary in this market.

Re: That's possible
Very true. I would only want to sign him if they got a good deal on him. He definitely is not worth 5.4 million

The Baltimore Sun reports the Baltimore Orioles may have interest in free-agent SS Cesar Izturis (Pirates) should they trade SS Miguel Tejada.
