You just keep getting better at this RJ - nice to see the revised numbers for some of the non-25 man guys.

What if you put the current/'07 $ in for the arb guys then updated when finalized? Would give a closer look at the running number.

When all is said and done on the arbs, looks like the payroll might sit around $40 mil. Estimating Pena at $5.0, Kaz and Wheeler @ $3.0, Gomes @ $1.0 - give or take. So that's good news - no big splash, but much better than nothing, with the possibility of another deal or 2. You all are justifably pleased.

I just wonder why that whole 20% comment was broadcast. Did the org think that would be impressive? Are they trying to position it that they're stepping it up? It's all very curious to me, but it's really not a big deal. They're making moves to make immediate improvements - the Floyd and Percy deals are certainly not long term moves - and I think that's a good thing. There weren't a lot of long term moves that fit, and they were pricey in a thin market, so it's all good. The trade was a solid strategic move, filling 2 holes at once, dealing from OF positional depth and leaving some IF depth questions but that's a cheap short term fix.

What's left to do? Maybe a lefty reliever (Affeldt, T. Miller, or just go with a minors signing and let Ridgeway, Birkins do battle. Or just go all righty again with Percy, Reyes, Wheeler, Glover, Balfour, Dohmann, Salas. And back up IFs - could be a spot for Guzman, and adding a swither in Cintron could provide a lefty bench bat along with IF depth. I don't see Guz as a middle IF guy. Don't know what Cintron would cost - made $1.9 but was dropped. Wouldn't want to go over a mil for that spot. Maybe a backup C on a minors invite deal. Landing more means more cash. Then there's the roster spot crunch, just 1 left now, with up to 3 adds. The lefty might not happen, but I don't see Zobrist as the optimal IF backup (could happen though). And I think a C will be added. So somebody might have to go. Trade Rocco or Gomes? DFA Eliot Johnson?

Hey how about Rocco to the Chisox for Danny Richar and Thornton or Logan? That gets you a lefty reliever and and lefty MIF bat. And they need a CF.

Argh @ Wilson, I swore I deleted him.

Putting the 07 number for guys like Pena / Kazmir isn't going to help much though it would for Wheeler and the like and I have no clue what the 20% comment was about, thankfully it didn't come to fruition.

I realize the current number for guys looking at big increases isn't accurate, but it is a number, not a zero that text in the box becomes. I'm just suggesting it would be better than nothing, but either way is fine. Or you could put a consensus approximation in to suggest a potntial total and an approximate number - have Jason come up with another way to color code it as a guess perhaps. There will be a number eventually - might as well take a rip at it.

Make it a closest to the number contest as a gentleman's bet for your readers.
