Stokes as the Fifth Starter? Hmm....Scratch that

Over the airwaves during the Rays' spring training game it's been announced that Brian Stokes has been told he is not in the running for the fifth rotation slot, but is headed for the bullpen and has a shot at being the closer.

Now I can't foresee him being the closer over guys like Reyes and Orvella just yet, but I do like the idea of Stokes being in the pen to start the year.

Also coming way of the radio broadcast, the Rays new color scheme will be unveiled by the end of March.

I really am not looking forward to this uniform change. I think the rays' uni's are really in the top echelon in the game. The AL East in general (except for the dreadful new torono duds) is really sharp looking.

I'm going to wait until I see the jersey before I pass judgement on the color scheme change.

He could probably close, but what a waste of someone with such a bright starter's future! Can't they exhaust his options as a starter before throwing him to the pen?

Bright future? A 4.11 ERA in AAA, albeit a hitter's park, as a 26 year old doesn't scream bright future. I think Stokes can excel in short outings but we'll see.

Re: Uniform Change
I agree the current uniforms are great. There are only two teams in all of baseball who use green, and that makes it special. How many more red, white and blue outfits do we need, really?

I'm more annoyed by the NAME change. Which crazy evangelical bingo mafia pressured them to lose the Devil part of the name?!

Rays? Rays is boring. DEVIL Rays, now that has bite.

Re: Uniform Change
I like our current unis as well, I don't think there is a team that wears blue and yellow outside of the throwback Mariners / Brewers.

I believe there was a study done where people (when speaking well of the Rays) called them the Rays, and when speaking poor of the Rays called them the Devil Rays.
