You want to get ticked off?

For those of you with MLB.TV, watch tonight's Yankees-White Sox game (the YES feed).  Move ahead to the bottom of the 4th, with a man on first, and listen to the Yankee announcer's commentary on the Devil Rays.

First, it is obvious they are desperate for a big name outfielder with speed, and they start making an allusion to possibly making a run for Carl Crawford.

The assertion is made that Tampa needs to let some of thier outfielders go, to "give them a chance to win somewhere."  Also, they make the argument that we are desperate for pitching, which is why we need to trade some of these outfielders ASAP.

Apparently they didn't watch JP Howell, they don't know who Kazmir and Shields are, nor are they aware that Sonnanstine is up.  And I guess they also don't know about the 3 more starters waiting down in Durham for their chance, nor about the fact that in 3 days we will own David Price.  Sorry, but what we need is another power bat in the heart of the order, and bullpen help.  And none of that is worthy of Carl Crawford.

Something about their commentary really bugged me. You know how Yankees fans are - basically they believe it is their God Given Right to have everyone's best players by opening their wallets. Too bad NY.  You aren't getting Carl Crawford.  Live with Melky and Godzilla in left.

Doesn't shock me
Everyone seems to think Carl is expendable, and that Tampa has no idea what they have, although coming from YES network is disturbing, they're right up there with ESPN, and yet they are still ignorant.

Re: You want to get ticked off?
So much for Carl having a chance to win "elsewhere." With the Yankee loss to Chicago, they are now tied in last place with us.  LOL.

With all of the NYY bats, I have a hard time seeing us finish ahead of them in 2007 even with their pitching woes.  But man it would do my heart good to finish ahead of them.  If Clemens blows up (he better not, he's on my fantasy team!), and Sonnanstine and Howell rock more than we anticipate, then we have a puncher's chance.

Re: You want to get ticked off?
Although they had been improving of late, the goobers at YES Network make ESPN look insightful when it comes to discussing the Rays (or any other team not affiliated with the Yankees).

New Yorker.

I must ask was it Michael Kay that said that comment?  I need to know that.

Michael Kay is nothing but a tv version of John Sterling.

Re: You want to get ticked off?
No, although he was leading the conversation.  It was the color commentator.

Honestly I enjoy John Sterling.  At least he has fun on the radio, win or lose.  The "Yankees Win!" is contrived and annoying, but I can live with it.  Just try listening to a Cubs or White Sox game when they are behind.  It's unreal to listen to them whine like children.

Bobby Murcer of all people?  It must have been Kay leading him on.  Once again, this "birthright" mentality this team has to overcome

Re: You want to get ticked off?
That doesn't shock me at all. To be fair, it's not just Yankee commentators. Pretty much everyone in baseball has no idea what goes on down in the Bay. Although, that though that the Rays would do it "to give them a chance to win somewhere" is absolutely ludicrous. If that's the case, why not move Mike Sweeney from K.C. or Jeff Francis from Colorado? It's absolute rubbish.

When was the last time the Yankees won the world series?

It's great knowing an eight year old kid (seven, but it's doubtful they win it this year) will wonder if the Yanks will ever win a WS.

Re: You want to get ticked off?
LOL.  I was just talking to a befuddled Yankee fan a few hours ago.  He couldn't believe it when I told him I thought they would be suffering for a long time after this season.

What is their future?  They've got Phil Hughes and Wang, then absolutely no pitching.  Mussina is retiring in a few years, Pettite is old and hurting, Clemens a 1-year quick fix.

How about the position players?  A-Rod is going to opt-out almost certainly.  Giambi is done as a Yankee, Posada is getting way up there, Cano is good but nowhere near as good as he hit in 2006, Damon is slowing down, Godzilla is a suspect left fielder who is also no spring chicken...

Oh and Mariano Rivera is getting old fast too, though it would not surprise me to see him resigned and continue to dominate as a closer for a few more years.

This division belongs to the Red Sox, and any team which cares to step up and compete.  The Yankee glory days are gone, the Orioles are always disappointing, and Toronto has never come close to expectations either.
