Montgomery Repeats as Southern League Champions

Huntsville-The Montgomery Biscuits plated three runs in a dramatic ninth inning rally, and overtook the Huntsville Stars for the second straight year to earn back to back Southern League titles. Richard De Los Santos got the start for the Biscuits and gave up three unearned runs over six innings of work, giving up five hits and walking two. The Montgomery bullpen would hold firm as Nick DeBarr, Brian Henderson, and Tim Corcoran shut out the Stars over the final three frames to keep the game within reach.

After Chris Nowak singled in Reid Brignac in the first inning, Montgomery would not score another run for the next seven innings while Huntsville scored three in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead. In the ninth inning however, Chris Nowak and Gaby Martinez lead off with singles for Montgomery before Sergio Pedroza mashed a gopher ball over the left field fence. The three run blast gave Montgomery a 4-3 lead, which Tim Corcoran would preserve in the bottom half of the inning for the save.

Montgomery repeated as Southern League champions to provide the Rays organization with their second championship of the season. Their repeat was the first for a Southern League team in thirty years.

Re: Jake,
Nah, I'm reworking it into a story for tomorrow.

Every has to remember
The 2007 Biscuits consisted of a lot of last year's Visalia Oaks team that made it to the Cali League Championship and the 2006 Biscuits that won it.

So don't be surprised if Durham finds themselves in the 2008 Bricktown Showdown.

Re: Every has to remember
Gonna have to get past the the '07 EL AA champs moved up to AAA Scranton in the IL next year, bolstered by some useful Scranton holdovers (best reg. season IL record, lost Rd. 1 to champ Richmond due to roster stripped for NY - 2 blown saves. Aaargh!).

Re: Every has to remember
Don't you worry, Durham's squad will probably a good 50% of the 2007 team. SWB will have a challenge, no matter who comes up from the Trenton Bad Logos.

Re: Every has to remember
The Biscuits Logo is one of the best in professional sports.  Seriously!  Monty is amazing.  A piece of butter for a tounge.  Classic!

Re: Every has to remember
What's Trenton's new logo? A cloud with a bat? Beats 2 Thunderbirds and Thor.

Wow
I just looked at the new Trenton logo for the first time. That is hilarious.

Re: Montgomery Repeats as Southern League Champion
When I was in Montgomery I questioned one of the staff about the Biscuits' mascot. (Actually, I was kidding, but he seemed to take it seriously.) The question is why is he called a Biscuit Eater? Wouldn't that suggest he was devouring the Biscuits? Silly, I know.

Re: Montgomery Repeats as Southern League Champion
Cannibalism run amok! But so yummy.

Don't be dishing on Thor - likely coming to a theater near you someday soon, starring blond again Colin Farrell or Orlando Bloom (gotta get the teenage girls, although I picture Thor as larger) if Marvel keeps going the way it has.

And with the way Trenton pitched this year (2nd best team ERA in minors), the cloud should be throwing the lightning bolt at a cowering opposing batter - maybe a little too scary for the kids though. Want that Biscuit toasted?

Speaking of "Thor",,,,,
Actually....

I'm reading that "Thor" will be a minor character, possibly, in the Iron Man movie and will be played by the lead actor of the HBO series "Rome". I believe his name is Lucias or something and he may or not be the same guy that is the main character in the new "Journeyman" series on NBC. Iron Man may be the beginning of a few spin-offs. Samuel L. Jackson is playing Nick Fury(I can see the "I got no @%$*) eye!" quote now) and Marvel is considering giving him his own movie.
