A mistake
Red Sox vs Tampa Bay AL playoffs October 10th.....bottom 7th inning...Boston 1 Tampa Bay 0.
Rays batting...runners on 1st and 3rd...1 out ...WHY NOT BUNT?
Give up the out,,, to tie the game. WHY NOT??? WHY NOT???.
The coach may ask that same question as they approach the seventh game, if it goes that far.
I'm not a coach, but in the 7th inning and down by one run, I would take that chance.. It's hard to make a double play on a bunt.
I have never second guessed a coach until tonight

Because one run doesn't win the game. We needed more than that. We would have lost anyway.

Sac Bunts are dumb.
Brad Ziegler had a scoreless inning streak. Brad Ziegler had not met BJ Upton.

You act like it wouldn't have been extremely close.

Based on where Bay was at and where CC was when he bluffed, I don't think it would have been close. He would have been thrown out by a good 10 feet most likely.

Maybe
The point is we have to force them to make a play. We were producing no offense up to that point, and we produced zero offense after that. We knew they had Papelbon as their ace in the hole. FOley had to know that we weren’t going to have many opportunities left.
Bays throw was way off, but that may be due to the bluff. I give it a 50/50 shot at scoring right there. A 50/50 shot right there is probably better odds than someone driving him in.
Either way I’d rather lose playing aggressive than lose playing passive. Force them to beat you.

That seems like a silly risk to take.
It only takes one hit.

It looked more like
90-10% that CC would have been out. Bay had him pegged and the only way CC gets in is if the ball goes sailing over varitek.
