I thought you might have a heart attack during the gamethread. You might not be cutout for October.

That's why this year wasn't so bad.
2007 was fun for us Mariner fans, but the games meaning something must have taken 10 years off my life simply from stress.

Yeah,Where is Steve?
Yeah, he talks to Shields with an interview on Wednesday and calls him “Shieldsy”? WTF?!
620 has blown it. Whitney can try to save face, but they have treated the Rays like crap.

It wont count in his career totals
but on a side note, David Price just recorded his first W in the majors.
Fernando is the quickest man alive. BJ and Longo are better than any of us ever will be.
Our future is sorta bright.

if we can beat Lester in Boston.....
wow, we would be HUGE favorites. Either way, 2-2 after 4 games works for me, becomes best of 3 with 2 in Tampa.

What a game
I’m… Well.. It’s… Hmmm… You guys played a hell of a game today, but I can’t stop myself for blaming Tito. He left Beckett to face Pena. That was silly. Carlos got a hit, he drove a run and everything. Then he let Beckett face Longo. That was very stupid. Evan ended up on 3rd. Then he put Javi in to face CC, and after one pitch he pulls Javi. That was very moronic. And then, he pulls Masterson after 0.2 innings. That was downright idiotic. And in the end, he puts in Timlin instead of Paul Byrd. Okay, this was a close call, but Byrd these days is the better pitcher. You offense kept you ass on the game, Tito, give ’em a shot to win it! No? Okay, then…
I’m not taking anything away from the Rays, they did great. But Tito was Grady Little dumb tonight.

My favorite part was when we won.
I also got to tell an old guy to “fuck off” after BJ hit his monster shot…that was fun.

Sleep is for the weak.
Watched the game tonight and had to get up a 4am for work today. Ouch. Never been so happy to be sleep deprived. This is one you tell your grandkids about one day.

Great WIN!
It may have taken 5 hrs. and 27 min, but it was well worth the wait!
BTW, Sabthia’s post season stats: W-2 L-3. K"King David needs 2 more wins to surpass C.C. as he beat the Mariners in 2001’s ALDS and the Yanks in 2007’s ALDS.

Price the 'key'?
Balfour is being overworked. Wheeler is really not very good. Can Price stabilize that pen?

Lost in all of this was Kazmir's start
But right now, in this October, Beckett and Kazmir are not what their records say they are. Rather, they are both working with greatly diminished stuff, and will likely not rebound until 2009, at the earliest; they just don’t have the weapons, and the hitters are telling us that, without uttering a word. Think about this: On Saturday night, Beckett threw 93 pitches — and of those, the Rays swung and missed at just four. Kazmir threw 98 pitches, and of those, only seven generated missed swings.
During the regular season, opposing hitters swung and missed 9.2 percent of Beckett’s pitches. In Game 2, they swung and missed 4.3 percent of the time.
During the regular season, opposing hitters swung and missed at Kazmir’s pitchers 12.4 percent of the time; in Game 2, that percentage dropped to 7.1 percent.
Rays manager Joe Maddon said emphatically after Game 2 that Kazmir will start in Game 6. But Kazmir might be even more compromised than Beckett is right now. His velocity is down two to three miles per hour, and his changeup is inconsistent, and that might be OK if his slider was right. But scouts have noticed that Kazmir barely uses his slider any more, and that it is flat when he does use it, and they suspect that he is pitching with elbow discomfort, having seen him shake his hand repeatedly in the way that you would if you got dinged on the funny bone.
According to Inside Edge, this is the percentage of sliders Kazmir has thrown in the last four regular seasons:
• 2005: 21.1 percent
• 2006: 24.4 percent
• 2007: 20.3 percent
• 2008: 12 percent

Both are clearly not 100% I give each a ton of credit for gutting it out,
but I don’t think either fan base wants to see these guys in what would an elimination game in #6.

Mr. Greatest Playoff Pitcher ever gave up 8 runs in 4.1
same innings as Kaz and if we had stepped on their throats it would not even have been close.

Any suggestions on what to do?
If Kazmir is pitching hurt, at this point what should be done?
Do what they’ve been doing: Keep throwing him out there and hope for the best? Or replace him with Price (or god forbid, Jackson)?
Kazmir is getting clobbered on the HR’s (12 in the last six starts, including eight in three starts vs. BOS) and taxing the bullpen in the process by only going five innings per start.
Or would flip-flopping Price from starter-bullpen-starter create an unnecessary injury risk?
Are they putting greater risk to Kazmir’s long-term health by letting him continue to throw or is the damage already done?
After they perform off-season TJ surgery, will this mean another season of Edwin Jackson in the rotation? Or Jason Hammel? Or Jeff Niemann?
