I bet it increases even more if they take into account his numbers from last year.

those Marcel projections do include last year, I would assume
or else his AVG and power wouldn’t be as high.

Assuming he comes back fully healthy next year
I have to think these are pretty conservative estimates. Also, why does nobody in the national media seem to realize (or acknowledge) that Upton’s shoulder cannot magically heal, and it will require offseason surgery. The stories I see on ESPN and other “major” sources seem to suggest that Longoria simply laid hands upon BJ and his labrum was mended. Dude is swinging the bat like this with one arm, so you kind of have to factor that into any prediction.

18? thats it?
they do know he is doing this off of playoff-teams pitching, right? off of Lester… he didn’t even hit off of wakefield….

Hopefully, yes
If not i doubt he ever will

Stern I have a scenario
Say you’re enjoying a lovely day at the beach. Sun is shining, sky is blue, water is beutiful. You’ve got a tanned beauty in a bikini on your side and a cold beer in your hand. Do you sit there and mutter “I can’t believe I left my sunglasses at home” the whole time?

dude, i'm enjoying every moment
of this post season, especially kicking the “nation’s” ass at Fenway
However, that is a big concern to sign him
Him and his brother have been cool to long term deals

We have him for the next four years one way or the other.
The world will end before we have to worry about it.

if they can't sign him, they probably will trade him at the third year a la Johan...but lets not talk about such horrible thangs.

I will ban your happy ass if you suggest that again.

Plus Bendix and I came to ARB numbers that totaled around 30 mil for the next four years.
I think we could get him at 60 mil over the next six. That’s 10 mil extra buying out two FA years and he gets a big deal as a 30 year old.

hopefully Friedman offers him 6/$60

It might take more, I don't know.
I wasn’t too sure on Kaz re-signing and it happened.

WHo do you see being offered deals this off season?
Rays players i mean
by sternfan1 on Oct 15, 2008 5:30 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
No point in offering Bartlett, Garza, Sonny, or even Navarro deals.
Bartlett is not a long term fix, Garza/Sonny are cheap and not even near ARB yet, and Navarro is only entering ARB1.

Navi can be signed for a lifetime supply of Ball Park Franks
Why WOULDN’T you do it?

I'm thinking he'd prefer arepas
Vogt early, Vogt often.

well, the closer a player gets to arbitration, the more he should demand in a long-term deal

Offering middle-relievers long deals is a risky proposition
Middle-relievers seem to literally go bad overnight. 2-3 year deals are the right way to go, and 4 is a stretch.

*That's Balfour only
Sonny’s great and all, but you only sign him to a long deal if you decide that he is part of the future of this team. We all love Sonny, but I think the Rays might trade him sooner or later.

Plus Balfour doesn't have me convinced he's THIS good.
We’re talking the third best reliever in the majors behind Mo/Paps right now. I’m really not sure that’s sustainable.

Balfout is next year's closer
those guys you do sign to multi year
Bartleyy short term?
Who? Beckham? Brignac?
One’s three years out the other not having good years at AAA
by sternfan1 on Oct 15, 2008 6:36 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don't know who Balfout is.
And saving him for the ninth is hilarious, considering Balfour/Howell’s usage is a huge reason why we’re here.

if you look at skills instead of ERA, relievers are a lot more predictable
it’s the Shawn Camp example
