i notice a lot of you are saying how much bias TBS has against us....to me it seemed like the TBS announcers were slobbering in love with the Rays.
Seriously?
They still don’t know who Friedman is, and Caray has a hard-on for getting “the call”.

Pedroia hits a long double "CRAWFORD WILL WAVE IT....OFF THE WALL."

Boston AND Tampa Bay fans hate him.
And there’s an old saying that if both sides hates you, you’re doing something right.
by Imperialism32 on Oct 18, 2008 4:36 PM EDT up reply actions
Well
While we’re blowing the Sox out, they’re of course going to have to praise how well the Ray are playing in comparison to the Sox. But if you go from the second the ball left Papi’s bat in the 7th inning, you could cut the fucking bias with a knife. It just got worse and worse every time a Rays pitcher gave up a hit/had what Caray perceived to be an exasperated look on face/threw a ball
Really hoping for a win tonight
The last 2 days have been unbearable here in NYC. For some inexplicable reason, every Yankees fan I know is rooting for the Red Sox in this series, and is hoping for a Rays collapse. If this isn’t a sign of a disconnected fanbase, I am not sure what is.
really?
Yankee fans have been seeing my rays jersey and shaking my hand and telling me to “knock those pricks out”
You must be seeing a different class of fan
The ones I’ve been talking to seem to blame the Rays (and injuries. OH THE INJURIES) for their absence in the postseason, and want us to go back to the cellar.
*
And actually think we’re going to be like the Rockies and do just that in the 09 season
Nobody accused Yankees fans of being smart.

I'm sure there are knowledgeable Yankees fans, but...
I am yet to meet one who could tell me both the starting SS before Jeter and name 3 Yankees Championship years prior to the 90s.

I love the pitching matchup
And I think if Beckett fails early, Francona will bring in Lester so god forbid, if there is a game 7…..only guys who can start are Wakefield and Byrd!
.He would not do that
Brad Ziegler had a scoreless inning streak. Brad Ziegler had not met BJ Upton.
Well they ran through almost the whole BP Thursday night.

Delcarman this ALCS is 0.1IP 5BB 7ER
Unwrittin rule to not save guys for a game that may never happen. I think if Beckett looks like game 2 Beckett, we will see Lester
well then lets assume you guys are right
Delcarman has been AWFUL
Masterson is hittable and eventually I will actually be right about that!
Papelfag threw over 30 pitches
Okajima should be good though.
Bucs game tomorrow night at 8. It would be nice if we can watch it in its entirety, live, and in peace.
Wakefield, Byrd and Timlin plz
Run down of pitchers who may go tonight
Beckett( having a tear in your pitching arm has been known to make you less effective)
Papelbon(ERA is still 0 but he threw over 30 pitches and has had 1 day rest)
Delcarman(wow has he been awful so far)
Okajima(rested and good)
Masterson(always seems hittable, hardly ever is)
Byrd(I will get erect if we get to face this guy)
Timlin(we are not seeing him unless we go 22 innings but man, wouldnt that be nice)
well something is wrong with that arm
and we certainly wont be finding out what from Beckett or Francona.
I wanted to be a Jazzy jeff. :(

BUT ITS TEMPTING
The Bullpen
Maddon needs to play the bullpen matchups as if there is no game tomorrow (especially with the lead). Throw freaking the book at them. If you have to change pitchers 4 times in an inning then do it. No need to save anybody.
Like if Shields goes 8 then we have a lefty starting the 9th then throw Price, then Balfour vs a righty, then Howell vs a lefty (or whatever combination). Point is we need to go 100% towards victory using all means possible.
1. Coco Crisp, CF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. David Ortiz, DH
4. Kevin Youkilis, 3B
5. J.D. Drew, RF
6. Jason Bay, LF
7. Mark Kotsay, 1B
8. Jed Lowrie, SS
9. Jason Varitek, C
SP — Josh Beckett
1. Akinori Iwamura, 2B
2. B.J. Upton, CF
3. Carlos Pena, 1B
4. Evan Longoria, 3B
5. Carl Crawford, LF
6. Cliff Floyd, DH
7. Dioner Navarro
8. Gabe Gross, RF
9. Jason Bartlett, SS
SP: James Shields
Mehh...was kinda hoping for Fernandez

One hour boys
I hope this goes down as the best game of the series. Both teams are hungry and I think it’s going to come down to who wants it more. Experience vs. grit here. Both teams will need clutch moments galore. Big game James should be huge going against the greatest post-season performer ever. I’m out of cliches, but I’m sure if we turn the sound up you’ll hear plenty more of this nonsense.

he basically cost the rays game 5
aside from Maddon not bringing in a LHP to face, well, anyone …. Gross didnt make a play I thought he should make on a pedroia looping liner to right (wouldve been a toughg play but i felt he pulled up to play it safe when he probably should’ve had it).
More importantly he shouldve had kotsay at home, but completely choked on the throw, and got a horrible jump on bays flyball that i thought he shouldve had also.

Maddon should be thankful that the postseason does not factor into the AL Manager of the Year award, because the last two games would have removed him from contention.
AND HOLY FUCK BARTLETT
WISH THAT HAD BEEN a 2-RUN HOMER
Manager of the year is meaningless anyways.

I don't know enough about Wedge to comment either way.

Not that the award matters, of course.
Just pointing out that we could use some of that solid decision-making right now, not this shit.
Honestly, a stolen base by Navarro? There is no conceivable situation – not even a hit and run – in which this is a good idea.
You can't say that, Beckett may have thrown another pitch. And it wouldn't have been from the wind.

reminds me of Game 6 of the 2002 series when the Angels were down 5 in the bottom of the 7th and came back . …more of the same would be nice
HE'S SO HITTABLE HE'S GRITTY
Brad Ziegler had a scoreless inning streak. Brad Ziegler had not met BJ Upton.

an inside the parker will do just as nicely.
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
Gov. Charlie Crist predicted the Rays would win before he threw the first pitch, but he appeared to have left the game before the outcome was clear.
He was sitting behind home plate but left his seat before the game was half over.

Not ever going to be easy, might as well make it as tough as possible. Tougher the grape, the sweeter the wine.

Longo, CC, Aybar due up in the 9th
Heres to Papelfag being tired and our hitters not trying to do too much

I know you think walks are good in the postseason but they aren’t
there!
thats why Maddon carried you!
bats, this is it, beat the drag queen and you get a ticket to the world series
lose here and you have to beat lester again
simple as that
NOW COME THE FUCK ON
If the Rays win, I will name my son Fiddle Catheus Rex.

Yes, we really do have fans.
America's Team won tonight.

Faith, you’re driving me away
You do it everyday
You don’t mean it
But it hurts like hell
My brain says I’m receiving pain
A lack of oxygen
From my life support
My iron lung
We’re too young to fall asleep
Too cynical to speak
We are losing it
Can’t you tell?
We scratch our eternal itch
A twentieth century bitch
And we are grateful for
Our iron lung
The head shrinkers
They want everything
My uncle Bill
My Belisha beacon
The head shrinkers
They want everything
My uncle Bill
My Belisha beacon
Suck, suck your teenage thumb
Toilet trained and dumb
When the power runs out
We’ll just hum
This, this is our new song
Just like the last one
A total waste of time
My iron lung
The head shrinkers
They want everything
My uncle Bill
My Belisha beacon
The head shrinkers
They want everything
My uncle Bill
My Belisha beacon
And if you’re frightened
You can be frightened
You can be, it’s OK
And if you’re frightened
You can be frightened
You can be, it’s OK
The head shrinkers
They want everything
My uncle Bill
My Belisha beacon
any other team and losing this series wouldn't be as tough...

Please
Never utter the words “Big Game James” again.
I have faith we can make a game of it tomorrow, but I can completely take solace in the fact that this team is built to succeed for the next 6+ years, and that the management is committed to winning. Right now, we’re up against a team, and Our Lord And Savior, Jesus Christ, so it’s understandable if we can’t pull it out, but we will have something to celebrate in the near future, either way.
My dilemma:
Go to Bucs mike alstott tribute game with season tix as usual or Game 7 with 6th Row premium seats?
Probably game 7….
Sign lady must die.
Game 7
Win or lose, it will be a game that you never forget.Regular season bucs game can’t compete
Both valid points.
I grew up watching the A-Train so that is gonna suck…
BUT
the Rays are 2-1 with me in attendance for the playoffs…

by EminenceFront on Oct 19, 2008 12:05 AM EDT up reply actions
True, but
A-Train tribute is just semantics; Game 7 ALCS is a reality.
Nothing can change the years we had watching the A-Train run over defenses, but the Rays 2008 Season is the here and now. Go for that.
That's my thinking.
Sign lady must die.
by EminenceFront on Oct 19, 2008 12:09 AM EDT up reply actions
How is that even a decision?
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver
Only a total idiot would pick a regular season NFL game over Game 7 of the ALCS
It isn’t even close.
To be fair, we don't deserve to win a game where we allowed JASON FUCKING VERITEK a homer

At least you still have
the Buccaneers, Lightning and Orlando Magic. And don’t forget: You still will raise a championship banner next year.
My name is Finlay, and I love to fight!
We know that baseball isn't played in a history book.
But y’all let us get back in, and we are a very opportunistic team.
Remember when we were kids and we mixed sodas together and called them "suicides"? It was OK though, because Dr. Pepper was always there.
