Did you know they actually made a "The Groovenians" movie? Its awesome.

It will be hard to beat Lester again
but not impossible
I wonder how many people actually show up for tomorrows thread since so many retards have given up.

Is it just me, or is facing a lefty a good thing here?
I mean, Iwamura can hold his own against them. Upton’s a righty. Lester neutralizes Pena, and I know Longoria hasn’t been great against LHP but he’s a righty. Crawford’s iffy against them.
But then… You have either Baldelli or Perez in RF, a righty and a switch who hits better from the right side. Then either Baldelli or Aybar at DH(FWIW, I’d put Perez in RF and have Rocco DH), and Aybar’s a switch hitter. Navarro’s a switch hitter, and Bartlett’s actually competent against lefties(today’s HR off Beckett notwithstanding).

I'll be here
but it’s going to be awfully tough. Garza in a Game 7 makes me extremely nervous… which one is going to show up?
I’ve never believed in momentum, but when you give a team like Boston life after having the series all but wrapped up, the other team does get a ton of confidence. I also don’t believe in “comeback magic” but Boston can do no fucking wrong when they get down big in these series. Like I said earlier, it’s like they almost purposely get down in these series.

Yes, we really do have fans.

I didn't think Gross should start, but once he was in the lineup, you really can't take him out because that is a panic move and the manager needs to be cool as ice. and if you are going to remove him, why not Fernie? But this cannot be pinned on Maddon.

I’m just exhausted. I needed a few innings of rest.

If we can win tomorrow
so many people will feel like idiots, I want that almost as much as a trophy.
Last 2 games we have figured out who are the real fans and who are bandwaggoners/frontrunners.
sternfan1 is at least a consistent asshole, a lot of people here just have no faith in a team that won 97 games.
Thats their problem, we are winning tomorrow and amazingly everyone will be back.

"sternfan1 is at least a consistent asshole,"
This is true. Just win tomorow and everything is ok in the world.

I think it's a bit unfair to be calling everyone "bandwagon fans" just because they haven't been showing up at the blog as often the last few days.
I haven’t been frequenting this site as much either because during these games, I haven’t felt like having my attention split between my computer and the game. Also, a lot of people are potentially at these games or are watching with friends/family. These are huge games, so I would expect the amount of people that would be able to blog during the game would be low.
And as for not showing up postgame, what more needs to be said about these losses? They’ve sucked, but there’s not a whole lot that can be said about them. We know why we lost them both and we know we need to get out there and win tomorrow.

Regular season I enjoyed listening over the radio and chatting on here, but it’s the playoffs so I go to bars with friends. More expensive, but a lot of fun.

the amazing thing is so many predicted a 7 game series which concludes in a Ray win
I guess since we lost OMG 2 STRAIGHT, we are done.
If anyone needs me, I will be with the real fans, not with the ones who thought it would be cool to cheer for the Rays.

I'm with you on this
Watching this team piss this game away makes me angry, but I doubt that Garza’s going to go out tomorrow as bad angry no-self-control Garza. We’re in for a 2-1 game.
I only hope that we score the 2 runs.

a important thing to remember
Whether we are winning or losing, Papelbon will be pitching tomorrow and that arm has to be dead.

Anybody at the game think our fans were too passive?
I was there, and when things weren’t going the Rays’ way in the middle innings, you could almost hear a pin drop. Or worse, you could hear the groups of Red Sox fans talking trash or cheering for their team while we just sat their and took it. Only when prompted by the scoreboard or when there were 2 strikes on the opposing hitter did Rays fans really cheer. I was just really disappointed in the crowd’s overall lack of enthusiasm. I guess that’s what you can expect when a lot of these people have rarely or never been to a Rays game. I want people to cheer loud for the Rays even things are tough, and I want them to stay until the end of the game, and they better do it for Game 7!
by rayweaver on Oct 19, 2008 1:47 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Eh
I was there too (and will be tomorrow) you can’t expect the crowd to be retarded loud the whole game. The thing that got to me was all of the Sox fans….god that pissed me off. I hate (almost) all of them. I know there are probably some decent people who root for the Red Sox because that’s there home town and that’s fine, but basically everyone else is a bag-o-douche and I can’t stand them.
by staplemaniac on Oct 19, 2008 3:13 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Not at the Park But Yes
When the Red Sox went up 2 – 1 and 3 – 2—and even when they tied it with Youkilis’ homer—the place went dead quiet.
Fans should cheer in a close game.
I don’t buy that the Rays were “tight” last night, but clearly the fans are spooked.
I still think about how the Rays got to Lester so quickly in Boston, snapped his neck back, but hard to see any kind of home field advantage for Tampa today—at least in any sort of nailbiter.
Now, go Rays!
Alright, time to deport Bourn.

A couple random thoughts
How do you get the name, ‘Big game James’, when you’re 0-2 in the LCS?
Gabe Gross is really food
Thank you goes out to, Joe, Grant, Dan and Gabe
by sternfan1 on Oct 19, 2008 5:42 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The Big Game James name annoys me too
I have no idea where it came from, and even in the context of what pitchers have done in big games this season, I think Andy Sonnanstine has performed better relative to his baseline in pressure situations.
Vogt early, Vogt often.

To lose this series
1- Blow a seven run lead with seven outs to go, while our manager lets Balfour and Wheeler throw to Ortiz and Drew while we had 3 LHP on the bench
2- Means we’ll have lost 3/4 at home, where we’re ‘unbeatable’
3- Will take away all the good this season has brought
by sternfan1 on Oct 19, 2008 6:08 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
3- Will take away all the good this season has brought
Oh, do you mean the season where most critics, both professional and the general public, thought the team would win no more than 80-85 games, much less contend fo anything other than the wild card spot? The season where the Rays won 97 games, established an amazing home record, increased attendance along with television/radio ratings and merchandise sales, and oh yeah, won the AL East? The season that has been the most successful for the Rays to date? The season where the Rays are STILL one win away from a World Series nod after playing in their first postseason EVER?
Sterny, please elaborate on how all the “good” will be taken away, and try ever so much to do it with some intelligence.

As a long time fan
of baseball, you never know when you get the oppurtunity again
Yo assume this team will improve record-wise is a bit risky

2- Means we’ll have lost 3/4 at home, where we’re ‘unbeatable’
Did the Rays go 81-0 during the regular season at the Trop this year? It seems like I remember a loss or two.

1- Blow a seven run lead with seven outs to go, while our manager lets Balfour and Wheeler throw to Ortiz and Drew while we had 3 LHP on the bench
So if a manager goes to a guy like Balfour who had money almost everytime out of the bullpen, and he is expected, based on past perfomance, to go out an shut down the other team, maybe it’s not to far-fetched to think that the manager wouldn’t immediately have someone backing him up with a 7-0 lead, right? It took time to get Wheeler up to bail out Grant, and it took time to get Howell up to bail out Wheeler. It’s real easy to look back now and say that not using the lefties earlier was the downfall in game 5, but if you read what Maddon said after the game, Balfour had not given up a HR to a lefty in almost two seasons, and Drew was something like 1-10 against Wheeler, while he was 3-6 against Howell/Miller. Going by the numbers was a big part of what got this team where it is today, and second guessing it now is, well, stupid. Game 5 came down to a very dependable bullpen having a meltdown, and Boston not giving up when they easily could have.
by rayweaver on Oct 19, 2008 8:45 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Balfour was in trouble from pitch 1
Some LHP should have been up with Ortiz coming up
Wheeler has looked less than impressive lately
To allow him to implode was unforgivable

Nobody was saying that after his outing last Saturday
What was it, 3 1/3 innings?
by rayweaver on Oct 19, 2008 12:12 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Sp you were 100% ok with Wheeler and Balfour
staying in as long as they did
Did you see Francona yank Delcarmen and put in Papelbon after he walked two batters, cause of the urgency of the game?
by sternfan1 on Oct 19, 2008 12:25 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
No, but it was understandable
why nobody was warming up when each one of them first went out given the situation. The meltdown was uncharacteristic, especially for Balfour. Sure Wheeler has been prone to giving up the longball, but his most recent performance was great. Maddon couldn’t have expected both of them to give up a combined 7 runs. Nobody would have. You also have to look at it from the point of view from each manager. Just as Maddon has used Balfour to stop the bleeding on many occasions, that’s what Francona did with Papelbon. It was an elimination game for him, and so he had to go to his most trusted reliever to keep things from getting worse. It was do or die for the Sox, and you would not have seen that happen if it wasn’t an elimination game for them.

Good luck, Rays!
Hey Rays fans – I am a Cardinals fan who happens to be in Florida this week and I am going to Game 7 tonight. Anyone have any recommendations for good places to meet up with friends for a beer and burger before the game? I would prefer somewhere near-ish to the Trop. Thanks and go Rays.
