If I hear one person from an opposing team
Bitch and moan about how bad the ratings will suck, I will go berserk. Unless you're an executive at FOX or work for the corporation, you should not give a crap about such a trivial thing, unless you're bitter and are mad that your team isn't in in. If you're a true baseball fan and can't appreciate this matchup then, well, I feel sorry for you.
Additionally, the ALCS ratings were through the roof, so I bet people will be surprised to find out the WS ratings aren't as low as originally expected.
I just wanted to put that out there, because I know some moron will comment on it. Carry on.

Mike Freeman is a dumbshit, BTW
Certainties in Life: Death, Taxes, and Gabe Gross coming through in the ninth

It's kind of known that Freeman = ignorant about all things baseball.
Carlos and Victor Zambrano have exactly the same number of career postseason wins. Who would have thought?

It's sad that people would rather watch inferior teams
such as the Sox and Dodgers in the Series just because they have sexy names and are “easy to hate.” That’s a pretty lame reason to watch a World Series.

Yes, we really do have fans.

Wow, just wow.

Wow. Freeman is dumber than dumb.
Needs no more elaboration.

I think this is going to be one of the best WS in recent years
Both teams I was cheering for in the playoffs made it, but I’m in it for the Rays.

I wanted Rays vs Brewers
now that would cause mass suicide around FOX
but the important team of those 2 is in so I don’t give a fuck!
WOOOOOO
Matt Garza is in the middle of having his 3rd testicle descend. He will be ready in time to win tonight though.

Yeah, the ratings probably will suck.
But have you seen the piles of crap with good ratings these days?
Ratings do not relate at all to quality.

That's directed and produced entertainment though.
All conspiracy theories aside.

remember in 2002 when curling really took off as an Olympic sport
and they’ve shown it 24/7 since then? well, this is the Rays’ 2002 Oympics on national tv.

I thought I read somewhere that the ratings were up something like 40%
for this years ALCS. Perhaps the Rays story is more captivating than people think. You definitely hit the nail on the head though about nobody should give a crap.

I think this is beginning to show
That more than anything else, baseball fans care about really good baseball games; the Sox and the Rays were a really compelling matchup because of just how good both teams are.
Rays and Phillies, the baseball fan in me isn’t quite as excited about this (the Rays fan in me is doing cartwheels); these teams have no history against one another at all, and I haven’t honestly followed the Phils enough to really know how the Rays match up against them between all the noise from the Cubs and Dodgers. I keep hearing about their stellar bullpen; the traditional stats tell me that they’re at least half-way decent but I also keep note that they didn’t pitch in the AL East.

They did for 3 games this year!
That’s enough of a sample size, right?

So how much is Fox going to pay so that both pitchers get in a beanball war in the first game?

Umm... I was gonna say something about Boston fans, what was it...
Oh right, we got more STINKING BANDWAGONERS this year. Hopefully they jumped off onto to y’all though. I’ll help pay the gas bill for that wagon.

other fan
Twins fan here, I just have to say that the Rays winning the ALCS is a good thing for baseball. I hope they go all the way.

Negativity
People whose team is not in it, always find something negative to say. I had some Sox fan at Game 6 in front of me saying to his girlfriend, “where were all these people in September?” I talked to him about it and without going into the rational explanation, he saw my point and that was that.
Who cares about ratings? Fox and those who buy ads. That’s it. Well that and the negative fans and sports writers with nothing good to say.
I’m done with this topic, too. On to the World Series. Go Rays!
To put it succinctly, the City of Tampa is part of the Rays in name only.

Business of Baseball has a pretty good handle on it
Their solution: less Yankmes and Red Sux worship during the regular season.

Rays ranked 29th in payrool this year
And that’s the lowest ranking to make a World Series since free agency started.

Screw market sizes.
People still talk about the 1991 Braves-Twins Series.
Nobody talks about media market sizes or the ratings.
People want good baseball.

That was such an amazing series
It was the first one that I watched every game and there were just so many stud performances. A truly great introduction to October.

Braves Series Not Quite the Same
.
People still talk about the 1991 Braves-Twins Series
I say the Rays/Phillies series will be better, but the reason people talked about it had an awful lot to do with the Braves being broadcasted nationally through Turner for years. That helped considerably with national recognition.
As I said in the article linked to from a poster here, the match-up may be the best in years. I expect a fantastic Series.

Sure, being on TBS may have helped with ratings or recognition, but it’s not why people still talk about that Series. They talk about it 17 years later because they were seven down-to-the-wire, well-played (except for maybe Lonnie Smith on defense) games, particularly Game 7.
The ratings may well suck, but put on a good show and people will talk about the series for years while the ratings are nothing but a forgotten footnote.

Fox executives are jumping out of windows ....
not because of the series, but because they missed out on all that money they could have gotten had they had the ALCS instead of the NLCS.

At least Fox didn't show a re-run of Steve Harvey
during the beginning of one of the games.
