I think Carl Crawford's reaction might have been worth all those losing seasons. Nobody deserves this more than Rocco and himself. Oh and the WS preview will come tomorrow. For today just celebrate and get sober, maybe.

Did anyone else who went to the game
notice that when the Rays announcer was introducing the Rays lineup before Game 7, he introduced them as “American League Champions”? He totally left out the “East” in his introduction. Apparently, he knew something nobody else knew at the time. Awesome…

Worth enjoying forever
Everyone will have their heads held up high forever. Yes, I admit, I had my doubts. It isn’t like Boston is chopped liver. This team answered the bell and stepped up in a way few believed. But the few that did believe was them, and that is all that matters.
Savor this. Congratulations to everyone. I never thought this day would ever be here, let alone this quick. Thank you all.

I had an awesome time last night!
The crowd was great the whole game. The crowd was completely opposite from Game 6, and I know it was because of what Garza was doing on the mound. I think there were definitely more Rays fans there for Game 7 based on who was still around for the celebration. There weren’t many empty seats after the game. Now let’s hope we pack the house with Rays colors for the WS. The last thing I want to see is an overwhelming shade of red in the stands.
John “My head is bigger than a house” Kruk and Steve Phillips have already picked the Phillies to win based on the bullpen matchup. So basically, the championship is a lock for TB. The Rays will win it all just to prove the four-letter network and every other naysayer wrong…AGAIN! F ’em all!!!! Go Rays!!!!!

Congrats, guys!
Your Rays did to the Red Sox what the Rockies couldn’t do last year: beat them. Most of us at Purple Row have been rooting for the Rays throughout October.

Some will
But most will be put in the playoff purse, to be distributed to the playoff teams. We get a higher share than the Red Sox.

let's not start this again/already
the Rays can and will be a long-term successful franchise even without a large payroll. there’s just so much room to succeed in MLB by making smart decisions instead of spending money. yes, there will be player turnover, but when fans love the entire roster, they can deal with losing a few guys per year. heck, i think it’s already obvious there won’t be a set closer in 2009.

Unfortunate that the Rays get no weekend games
One would think that MLB would plan far enough in advance to have it so each team gets a weekend game, since there are a fair number of people who can’t really make weekday games.
I’m going to try getting tickets tonight. Might have to miss a day of work though if I can’t get Saturday tickets. I hope the Phillies Phans don’t throw batteries at me or something.

I have an inconsistent work schedule (when I have work, I have to work, and business is busy lately), so it’s tough to guarantee time off. I’ve been to the WS before (I saw Beckett shut down the Yankees at Yankees Stadium), but I’d really like to go to cheer on my team.

and now I lose again for Games 1 and 2 for the Series. If i wasn’t so ecstatic that we were going to the Series, I’d be extremely depressed right now.

I sold 3 tickets last night for $8 total
You couldn’t give the tickets away yesterday. I was actually embarassed. I actually got the tickets because someone wanted to go to the game and just threw them on the ground (he couldnt’ sell them). I was lucky enough to be able to sell 3 of them for a total of $8.
Point being just go to the game and you should be able to get tickets.
by matthan on Oct 20, 2008 11:04 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
That is insane
I think the Bucs game took away a lot of interested people. People can’t sell near the stadium during the World Series so buying on site might be tough. I think they have to be off the Trop’s block so they’ll be further down the street than what people are used to.

Matthan -- What do you think demand will be for WS tickets?
What was it like for the first couple games of ALCS? (near the stadium)
I am only asking because I am buying tickets this afternoon and I was planning on buying some extra in case I could convince some friends to go, but if I won’t be able to resell them for face value I will just get enough tickets for the “for sure” people in my group.
Thanks
by RaysTheRoof on Oct 20, 2008 11:29 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I would say the demand was pretty good
there were alot of people selling, but for way over face value. I would say you could definietly get minimum face for game 1 and at least 2x face for game 2 being on thursday. There were so many more people for game 2 last week.
I didnt win the lottery, nor did 3 of my friends who previously had. If any of your “for sure” or “maybe” group falls through, i would jump at the chance to buy tickets for face.

World Series
Keep in mind, for the World Series there will be far fewer seats available to the general public. MLB/corporate partners will get a good chunk of seats.
by RATW on Oct 20, 2008 1:52 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
very true
The only thing i could see limiting demand is the games being on wednesday and thursday. not friday and/or saturday. probably not going to make much difference. I think its going to be a tough ticket to find.

The map on Stubhub of sections that have tix available on their site shows a drastic increase in Stubhub tix
well over what they were for the ALCS

Honestly I had a different experience
If you were willing to spend a few minutes scalping (not paying the first guy you talked to) then you could have easily gotten tickets to every game at face. I had numerous friends who paid significantly under face for every game of the playoffs. It just takes some time. The toughest ticket was Game 6 of the ALCS. The rest you could have gotten under face value.
Of course if you want 4 together or something like that it is a whole different animal.
My advice:
1. If you are trying to make money use craigslist or stubhub
2. If you are trying to buy tickets then just buy at the Trop. But be patient.

Good job

Actually, I’m not terribly suprised for three reasons. First, this message board alone showed that there was quite a bit of doubt going around, I’m sure most Rays fans didn’t want to be part of the inevitable celebration of the AL Champion Red Sox on our own turf. Oops.
Secondly, these kinds of stories aren’t getting any press. All I’ve heard about in the press is ’don’t have tickets? Stubhub. Oh BTW, Stubhub tickets are going for 4-5 times over face value.’ If I’m a Rays fan who hasn’t been lucky enough to make it to a playoff game yet and I go to stubhub and see that there’s no possibly way I can afford a pair of tickets, why in the hell would I think it’s a good idea to go to the Trop and buy tickets there from a roaming scalper? Most of the people going to the games either already have tickets or are trying to sell them.
Third, this area seems to be pretty resistant to scalping; I don’t know if I’ve ever heard so many people scream so loud collectively at the rip-off going on for Division Series tickets, a decent number (and by decent, I mean anywhere between five hundred to a thousand) seats were empty for every game I went to, which just shows that there are plenty of people in this area who simply would rather watch the game at a sports bar or at home before being price-gouged.
What would make ANYONE think that

"What would make ANYONE think that"
Sorry, itchy trigger finger.
Finishing that thought, what would make ANYONE think that in this economic client that they’re going to find 20-30 people to pay $1000 a piece for an upper-deck ticket?

A friend of mine had 4 extras he couldn't get rid of at face value
I agree with the Debbie Downer post below that a bunch of the bastards in this area gave up on this team on Sunday. I’m just glad I was there in person to watch all of those a-hole Boston fans have to eat their “f*ck sandwiches”.

A Sheriffs Officer got me 3 tickets for free
i was planning on just watching at home and he called me and said someone walking into the game had 3 extras and couldnt get rid of them, so he just handed to him, hoping he could find someone.

I knew the Rays could do it.
Thanks to everyone here and Rays fans in general for being so accommodating to all of us new bandwagoners, it isn’t easy to handle an influx of new “fans” but you’ve done so with grace and fiddle cats. Kudos.
I say bandwagoner in the most fondest of terms, because what the Rays are presently in the process of doing is making “lifelong fans.”
Now, although this season has turned out beyond anyone’s wildest expectations, there remains four more wins to make it the ultimate sports memory.
Go Rays.
