From Jim Rome:

The Rays are who we thought they were, not the guys who were trying to knock over the monster in Fenway. That's not where these guys live, they were built to do it with pitching, speed and defense, and it was all on Game 2 of the World Series. They don't wait for someone to pop a three runner, they play small ball, not long ball.

How does someone cover sports for a living and still know so little?

That actually shows that Jim does know what he is talking about

We were possessed during the first 2 series, I don’t have time to look it up but I seriously doubt as a team we had a 2-3 week stretch of power like we have had over the first 2 series.

All season long we have been a team that has used base hits, walks, and mistakes to get on base, small ball to get the guys over/speed, and productive outs to get runs home (hence the poor average with runners in scoring position during the season). On the mound we have gotten quality starts and shut down bullpen work.

I have trouble believing. . .

. . . a team that was 4th in the league in home runs and bottom in the league in sacrifice hits had an upper half OBP and a lower half BA manufactured runs and played small ball and not long ball.

Nevermind the progressive front office thing.

Jim Rome

Perhaps the most respected voice in the world of sports broadcasting, Jim Rome is the leading opinion-maker of his generation. As host of the nation’s premiere sports radio talk show, Rome is known for his aggressive, informed, rapid-fire dialogue. Jim has established himself as the top choice of athletes and fans when it is time to know what is going on beyond the scoreboard.

Are you joking?

Rome’s nationally syndicated radio program, The Jim Rome Show, a.k.a. The Jungle, airs on more than 200 radio stations each weekday and boasts more than two million listeners. But these are no ordinary listeners; they are a legion of fans known as the clones who live and breathe for Jim Rome’s "take" on the day’s larger issues of sport. It is his departure from conventional sports commentary that has resulted in Rome’s unique dialogue with his listeners.

I wish

In addition to his daily radio grind, Rome returned to ESPN to host Jim Rome Is Burning, a daily, provocative sports talk show airing at 4:30p.m. EST. The program originates from Los Angeles and features opinion, Rome’s "rants," debate and guest appearances by some of the biggest name in sports.

Rome has made a cameo appearances along side Al Pacino and Matthew McConaughey in Two For The Money, with Adam Sandler in The Longest Yard and opposite Michael Jordan in Space Jam; appeared in Blink 182’s music video; appeared on HBO’s "Arliss;" and released a CD, Welcome to the Jungle, which features memorable sound bites from frequent callers and the hip music regularly used on the radio show.
