The DH violates the symmetry of the game and shreds the beauty of the chess-like tradeoffs that NL (that is to say, original) style play requires. The whole point of baseball is/was supposed to be that every player has to play both offense and defense. You have to decide whether it’s worth pulling a pitcher to get a better bat in, or whether you take that hit and let the pitcher go up there and maybe find a way to get through.
