I have a new game plan

Hit Aki in the head to knock some sense into him and then a BJ grand slam, I think its a full proof plan

This Phillies team

Wouldnt finish in the top 3 of the AL East, yet they are kicking our ass

by td32 on Oct 26, 2008 11:08 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

If that's what it takes to help you sleep at night...

…but the AL East was pretty bad this year. I get it, it’s the victim mentality. You’ve been beaten up so long that you empathize with your abuser but the Yankees, Orioles and Blue Jays were out of contention from the All-Star break on. It stunk. You beat a Boston team that didn’t have Manny half the year and whose ACE pitched half the season injured.

If you were so good you wouldn’t be getting trounced 8-2 and down 1 game to 3 in the World Series.

by Chase Mutley on Oct 26, 2008 11:20 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The ALE had four of the top five teams in the AL by Baseruns.

So, in other words, you don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about.

by R.J. Anderson on Oct 26, 2008 11:21 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

If I didn't know what I was talking about...

…you wouldn’t be getting murdered by the AAA League, right?

by Chase Mutley on Oct 26, 2008 11:23 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Ryan Howard...

…just said, sample size this.

by Chase Mutley on Oct 26, 2008 11:25 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Statistical baseball...

A few days ago I gave the following friendly insight:

- Carlos Ruiz has been hot in the playoffs, despite having a week offensive year, and that he calls a great game.
- Joe Blanton is much better than his numbers suggest.

You, personally, blew me off because of your “sample size”. Your team is one game away from losing the World Series.

by Chase Mutley on Oct 26, 2008 11:37 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No, your sample size still sucks and your arguments are dumb.

You’re sucking on Blanton’s cock because of his W-L record.

by R.J. Anderson on Oct 26, 2008 11:38 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

My argument...

…is going to be a parade down Broad St.

3-1.

by Chase Mutley on Oct 26, 2008 11:39 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It's not an argument...

…Joe Blanton gave up 2 runs and Carlos Ruiz is hitting .400. There’s no argument, I was right.

And yes it is.

by Chase Mutley on Oct 26, 2008 11:42 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No, you're right on results, wrong on processes.

Also, your math is apparently bad, but it takes 4 wins to win.

Cole Hamels is good.

I’m not seeing your point here. I do know that I didn’t go on the Boston sites bragging when it was 3-1.

Hey...

…I came here in peace at first, wishing you a good series, and offering friendly insight that Ruiz has been hot and Blanton has been great and you and everyone else laughed me out the door with your statistics.

The game isn’t played on paper. Hot players will kill you over good players every time.

Say “Philly fan” all you want, talk about winning the AL East like it was the World Series, whatever it takes. Good luck going to bed tonight.

People seem to forget we are in the same division as the Sox and Yankees...

And it would be foolish to think the Yanks arent going to be much better next season. Sure, we are going to have a very good team for the next few years, but that doesnt mean we’ll be in the postseason. If we were in any other division we would be looking at the playoffs almost every year…

by RayFanNY on Oct 26, 2008 11:27 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

you know what

no matter what we do the next 3 games, we need AT LEAST 1 big bat and we need to trade Wheeler to a GM who thinks he is great

The good thing is, we have a GM who probably knows that

by joeybw on Oct 26, 2008 11:21 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

My off-season priorities:

1. RF/DH bat.
2. Re-sign Upton.
3. Sure up bullpen/avoid regression.

Any chance we sign Fuentes?

by joeybw on Oct 26, 2008 11:24 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Good stuff

The bullpen comment is important. I see them going backwards, and not just because of this post season. Howell and Balfour won’t be totally lights out again, Wheeler and Percival just aren’t that good, and I’ve never had confidence in Miller

by RayFanNY on Oct 26, 2008 11:29 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah.

I don’t see Balfour being a sub-2 FIP type, although in his time here last year he was around mid-3. So if he regresses to that we’re not in too bad of shape. Howell, no idea what he does. Losing Percival will help.

by R.J. Anderson on Oct 26, 2008 11:30 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

True, true.

They did give Hampton and Helton those huge contracts.

Then they ask for some combination of Davis/Hellickson/other top prospects.

The Dirty Canuck of the now.

by Blicks on Oct 26, 2008 11:27 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That's the problem with dealing Sonnanstine.

Either
A) GM thinks he sucks, won’t give up enough.*
B) GM knows how good he is, but knows others don’t, won’t give up enough.*

*Enough = for a pre-arb starter capable of good FIP/tRAs.

by R.J. Anderson on Oct 26, 2008 11:28 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I see your point

But if Price and Hellickson turn out to be front line starters, what are we going to do? 7 man rotation? At some point we need to roll the dice and trade someone for need

by RayFanNY on Oct 26, 2008 11:31 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Bullpen or trades.

Hellickson is at least a year away.

by R.J. Anderson on Oct 26, 2008 11:32 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Structure a deal around Hellickson, Davis, etc. then?
