That Just Happened
If there was ever a time for Carlos Pena and Evan Longoria to get their first three combined hits, it was tonight. Despite poor umpiring and awful conditions somehow 3-4-5 in the Rays lineup came through for just enough to push this game back for who knows how long. I don't know how B.J. Upton beat both throws while running on mud, but my goodness he is awesome.

We cannot officially be eliminated tonight
Awesome. The Rays are going to come back and when this series. Why? Because Philly fans are fucking douche bags and God likes to torment them.

and know hamels is out and if we can get this back to the trop that trophy is ours to lose
the red sox had a 9 game elimination win streak, but matt garza was too busy rocking out to tupac to notice

at this pace, maybe Kazmir will be able to pitch game 7 on normal rest.
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.

but to clarify, I’d go with Garza.

oh god i hope that this isnt delayed long enough for hamels to pitch in game 7
but matt garza beat jon lester in game 7 of the alcs, as my sig suggests that all matt garza needs to do is listen to tupac, and like srqman noticed about him before he needs to be dancing and shooting off his finger gun before game 7

BOSSMAN Upton
is so damn lazy that he didn’t want to go home yet, he would rather stay in a hotel in philly and order room service. that lazy, quick, graceful man

Hopefully that just pisses him off so damn much that he will hit an 8-run home run and hitch a ride back to St.Pete on the ball.
After all, he’s too lazy to use conventional transportation.

Dear Rays fans
Ok I am not talking trash or anything, I swear to it. But how is it the Rays to lose? This game isn’t over and the Rays are down 3-1 in the series? Sure they have a chance, anyone can win 3 in a row, but I wouldnt say it’s theirs to lose by any means. And Pena and Longoria havent officially woken up, they have 3 hits out of 30-some at bats. I mean as a Phils fan I dont expect a championship but, I mean, I wouldnt accept the trophy before its yours.

Seriously, are you that naive?

Oh and another thing TB fans
I have been on many blogs, both sides of the series, and the fans talking the most crap on the other teams fans is TB fans. So now really who are the a-holes? Think about it.

A lot of people here have experience with Eagles/Flyers fans.
Is it unfair to most Phils fans? Yes, but sadly those fans left bad impressions.

Tough situation
So I’m guessing we’ll have to go through rested Romero/Madson/Lidge while holding the Phillies scoreless for four extremely high-stress innings. They’ve got the pitcher spot due up so they can pinch-hit then go through the top of the order, twice if they have to bat in the ninth.
It will be epic if the Rays pull this off.
by RATW on Oct 28, 2008 9:27 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Any word on who we are starting?
Price? Shields? Our pitcher is batting fourth in the top of the seventh and I dont see us batting a pitcher this late in the game. Maybe start Howell, and pitch hit for him, then let Price go two.
by LeftRight on Oct 28, 2008 9:50 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don't like that
I have nothing really to back this up, but it seems like Balfour does not do well coming in with no one on. He likes runners on second and third with no outs.

Anyone who thinks we should waste a starter for 2.5 innings should be stabbed.

There is no wasting in an elimination game.

This the 'rob Peter to pay Paul' argument
So they send out Shields, then move Garza up in the rotation for 6? Then say the Rays win game 6, who do you send out then, Sonny on short rest? How bout Edwin, as if we don’t need another reason to railroad his ass out of town. Or let’s put the final game of the world series on David Price’s shoulders, since we’ve seen him pitch all of what, 13 innings this season and he’s looked merely ‘OK’, never mind the fact that if he actually was better than Sonny as a starter right now then he’d currently be in the rotation. I like none of these options.
Balfour goes out and pitches his half-inning, then send out Price for the 8th on until either we win or lose, or he’s worn out and the game is still tied.
by kericr on Oct 28, 2008 2:02 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Keeping Balfour in
Might force Manuel to bring in a lefty pinch hitter (Hamels’ spot is up) and then he’ll bring in Price immediately. If Manuel goes with a righty pinch in some kind of bluff-call, then we’ve got the perceived advantage anyway.
by PlayOnWords on Oct 28, 2008 10:10 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yup, but I go with Howell instead of Price
because of the pitcher batting (maybe) next inning. What worries me is that I only trust our two lefties for this game, and we cant let them bat. Another pitcher will have to factor in, so maybe we do start Balfour.

Well...

Correct me if I’m wrong, but if the Rays somehow manage to win tomorrow, and then there is no off day between games 5-6-7, even if we force a game 7, Hamels will be starting on 4 days rest.
Yikes.
