Another longshot possibility is Carl Crawford. If the Rays think Fernando Perez can approximate some of Crawford's offense and defense, it would lop around $8-million off the payroll if they are willing to part with the franchise's all-time hits leader. (per St. Pete Times)
What do you think? Who would you rather have in LF--Crawford or Perez? Could Perez produce the stats Crawford produced this year--could he do better?
Also factored into this situation must be the return the Rays could get for Crawford. Could he be traded for a closer? What about a straight-up swap of Jermaine Dye for Crawford? The White Sox want to get faster--this sounds like the type of deal that Kenny Williams would do.
Is there someone better out there that would make a better deal?
