Matt Garza Was Okay

Four walks, four strikeouts, zero homeruns, more groundballs than fly balls, and 14 swinging strikes. Unfortunately the hits he did give up were usually to the warning track. Here are his graphs:

I really thought he would be dominant in this game

Oh well, Sonny will take care of business tomorrow.

I thought Garza was decent. The ump wasnt kind to the Rays

I blame this loss on the offense. Specifically their performance in the first few innings. We put a lot of guys on, but couldn’t get the big hit to bust it open. If we go up 3 or 4 to nada like we could and should have we would have put a nail in their coffin.

this ump screwed us a couple of times

on the longo strike out, the cc strike out was a horrible call and he didnt give garza any calls that he gave danks and the white sox

Agreed

That was the most erratic strike zone I’ve ever seen. Stick Joe West behind the plate and keep him there. Jim Thome’s “check swing” that was called a ball was inexplicable considering that Longo (i think) had a similar swing (actually didnt go as far as Thome) that was called for a strike.

I noticed that too

But it was different umps on the appeal – Thome bats left-handed. Should have both been called the same, and I would hope that if it had been the same ump he would have called both the same way.

Not a shock that we lost.

Danks has owned us all year, so that fact that we cough one up to him shouldn’t surprise me. We’ll get ’em tomorrow. And we better, because if I have to listen to Harold Reynolds much longer I am going to start breaking shit.

Harold Reynolds:

“Chad Bradford is not a double play pitcher….(later on)…..Chad Bradford pitched into 58 double play balls this year and gives up a lot of ground balls”

Do your damn research, Harold.

before he hit that i was really starting to doubt if he should play or not

you can just tell how much pain that bj is in, if he was healthy i think he wouldve dove for a couple of fly balls that he usually would come down with and his shoulder was destroying him at the plate, you could just tell that by him not swinging at some pitches

but that HR and the single in the 9th made me feel stupid for ever doubting the bossman

i never question whether he should play or not (honestly! ludicrous)

but in his first AB today he looked really timid and like he was trying to mask the pain… funny how he gets better as the game progresses… like his triple last game… also after a couple less-than-stellar ABs

but Maddon didn’t hesitate with sitting Los for just a scratched eye… so i don’t doubt that he would protect BOSSMAN if he thought there was danger/pain

He didn't give up any long bombs

Can’t ask for any more than that.

I'm laughing at the superior intellect.
