Garza is going through Maddon's good wine.

Brad Ziegler had a scoreless inning streak. Brad Ziegler had not met BJ Upton.

THE YANKEES LOSE!

THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YANKEES ARE STILL AT HOME!

by kericr on Oct 6, 2008 8:26 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I don't care about any of that.

I just want to make sure that Yankees fans know that they still lost.

by kericr on Oct 6, 2008 8:30 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

They're going to come back with a vengence next season.

Luckily, we should have a whole year of Longoria, a healthy BJ, a significantly better CC, Garza should be better and Price will out pitch Jackson. So hopefully we can finish with a similar record with the uptick in competition.

The AL East is going to be even more unreal next year.

Rays, Red Sox, Yankees and Blue Jays are all good teams already, Orioles should be a lot better.

Oh, I don't know.

They’ve got some serious holes, and the Rays and Red Sox don’t. They’ve got a lot of collapse potential, too.

In what alternate universe might the Orioles finish ahead of the Yankees?

Are you assuming they sign CC AND Tex?

Congrats; I can’t really stomach any more of the Rays winning, though. It was cute for a little bit, now reality is setting in.

So congrats, enjoy and all that…

Destiny Be With You

Some here in the other corner of America compare you to the ‘95 M’s. But I think this only applies to the general storyline. Though we sucked about twice as long before getting it going.

We had Randy Johnson and precious little else of note for a pitching staff. Bosio and Belcher? We had a high scoring offense, but it was an Earl Weaver offense that relied on the bomb. Good pitching can deal with that in a short series as Cleavland showed. You also have a more balanced offense, a better overall defense, more depth and a FAR better ‘pen. We didn’t even have a Big League pen.

You guys can do it.
Think of how good it will feel to make Chowd Nation cry. Their tears will taste so sweet.

by Big Jared on Oct 6, 2008 9:08 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Take away one Edgar double....

and you’d likely have YOUR Tampa Bay Mariners.

The ‘95 team really wasn’t that good, they just caught the proverbial lightning in a bottle……and the Angels fully melted down.

The ’08 Rays really are that good.

Why sweat the petty stuff when you can pet the sweaty stuff?

Hey all

Mets fan here: Congrats on the series win. The Rays are the only reason I’m still following baseball right now, they’re easily the best story and the most fun team to watch this year, so I’m hardcore on the bandwagon for the next few weeks. I hope they crush the souls of the Sox and their fans the way the Sox did to the Yankees in ‘04. Just promise that if they do, you all won’t become as insufferable as those bastahds up north.

ps…you’re welcome for Scott Kazmir. I’m gonna go stick my head in the oven now.

to be fair

our GM at the time was the less qualified of the Duquette brothers, which is really saying something. That’s kinda like having the less qualified of the Bush brothers as your gov….oh wait, never mind (I kid, I kid…besides, who am I to make fun of anyone’s governor when mine was Elliot Spitzer).

No, but seriously, Duquette was our GM for 2 months and managed to make the 2nd worst trade in franchise history. Any chance we can get a do-over?

Mets fan here

I’ve had the Rays as my adopted AL team since March when I picked them to win, er, 85 games (people thought I was nuts even for that prediction). What they’ve done this season is the coolest story baseball has had in years (since the 1969 Mets, maybe?) and it would become even cooler if they knocked off the New Evil Empire.
