Red Sox vs. Rays
And so it comes down to this, for the American league championship the Tampa Bay Rays take on the Boston Red Sox. The Rays are all too familiar with there northern AL East brethren, having beaten them 10 times out 18 games played.
The Boston Red Sox have history, they have a crappy stadium, and Ben Afllack. The Rays have a young history, a crappy stadium, and Dick Vitale. I think Vitale is the better actor between the two, to be honest.
I shouldn't have to say much else. This four game series is in my my eyes as nothing more then yet another obstacle for the Rays to overcome. They have proven that they have been the better team all year. The Rays have proven they can been Boston in there building. The Rays have proven they can beat Papelbon. What have the Red Sox proven?
Time Capsule: April 25, 2008. This was the Rays first victory of the year against the Red Sox. You may remember this game because of the game winning hit by Nathan Haynes.

I was at this game. So Awesome.
On one other note:
Is it any coincidence that every team in this area that has shown recent success (The Rays, Bucs, and Bulls) all have one thing in common – excellent defense (or a team built around defense, the Bucs defense this year isn’t statistically great)? The one team that has struggled (The Lightning) built an identity on offense instead?

What about that do you not understand?
Good Tampa Bay Teams all have teams built on defense
The Lightning were the worst team in the league last year, and don’t kid yourself if you think they were good the year before that either, scraping into the playoffs as the #8 seed is not in my eyes a good team.

The Lightning thing threw me off, but I think I get you now
Another thing that confused me is that the Bucs and Lightning won top honors whereas USF hasn’t won anything of importance.

Yeah I'm not talking about championships
Just competitiveness.
And I know we’re only 2 games into the season, but the Bolts looked damn awful in Prague.

It's going to take a while for the NHL hit show to work out if it does
I’m against going out and getting a bunch of free agents regardless of the sport. Our defense does not look good, the MVP line are the only guys that have played together, but our goaltending has looked good so far. It could be a long season or we could be a pleasant surprise, but I do not see us dominating anybody.

When the Lightning won the cup it was because Tortorella's offense could beat the pre-lockout NHL trap-defenses.
When the rules after the lockout changed the offense losts the edge it had and didn’t focus enough on defense.
The Lightning were horrible at moving the puck and generating any sort of offensive pressure over in Prague, we just picked up a decent defensemen from the Canucks, I will let them play a few games back at home before I pass judgement. Remember the Lightning started 3-0 last year any everyone thought that they were “back”. Give them a month or so and then check how they are playing.

I'm expecting them to start off slow
Then when they develop some chemistry and familiarity make a run for a playoff spot late in the season

Again, I am talking about the last year or two, tops.
I know the 04 team was built upon a high-pressure offense, but that’s too far back for my comparison.
And I am giving them time. I said they looked awful in Prague, not something that shows no patience, such as ’They’ve looked awful all season.’
In game one, this team looked like it had the capability to completely lay waste to an opponent if the opponent made enough mistakes and the goalie didn’t stand on their head. The Bolts had so many breakaways in the first period of game one that if Lundqvist wasn’t playing God, the Rangers would have went into the 1st intermission down 5-0. Game 2 was rough, and that just shows the team has work to do; I didn’t catch enough of the 2nd game to make a judgement call, but the early schedule favors them getitng things straightened out.

I wonder
how much of an advantage the weather will be for Boston when they’re at home. A lot of native southerners and Californians on the Rays squad, and the temps will probably be in the 40’s and 50’s.

Good to see that you Rays fans come out of the woodworks. You are sooo blind about the beating that you are about to get!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy! Sox in 4, maybe 5!

Is that best you got?
You want to talk about woodworks? You are the first fan base came along with a craptastic movie also known as “Fever Pitch.” Seriously. If the beating is anything like the season series then the your sox lose in 5 games. The only reason why I give the Red Sox one game because your “fan base” will probably pull the alarm of the hotel the Rays are staying at like they did last year.
The will win because they are better, healthier, and quicker then the Sox. I look forward to watching the Rays drive the dagger in the Red Sox heart by celebrating their first World Series birth in that crappy park known as Fenway.
Over the years I have sat back and listened to your fan base too their own horn. Well guess what? The times have changed my friends. Your team isn’t loveable, nor young, or for that matter amazing.
In my opinion, the Boston Red Sox are one of the worst franchises in the major league sports. We could talk about fair weather fans, that could one point. Yes, I know the Rays have them as well. Or does it count that the fans we have now rooted for the Red Sox up until about September 24th? The Red Sox fans for years accepted mediocrity and hiding behind a damn curse. Lastly, the Red Sox were the last franchise to hire black ball players. You want talk about pathetic? Start no place other then the team that plays on Yawkey.
One last note: I heard time and time again the Red Sox fans constantly say “If the Sawks just win one, I will die happy.” Well, guess what, you owe somebody big time!
Good luck pal, you are going to need it.

What exactly do you want me to react to on your link?
I am just stating simply, that I am tired of the damn sox. I am tired of the damn “Nation.” I have been plenty of places around this country, and I can tell you that the “nation” is just another word for bandwagon. I can’t stand the Red Sox, I haven’t be able to stand them for quite some time. Once upon a time, i didn’t always have a disdain for the Red Sox. In Fact growing up I like Mike Greenwell. I thought he was awesome. But, I grew up and I move to Tampa and now I love my home team. that “TB” stands for my home town. A home town that has been the ass of jokes in the baseball world for too damn long. I am tired of it.
I know MOST of you on Over the Moster of classy fans and know A LOT about baseball. I resepct that. However, I don’t like the Red Sox, and will not.

Thank you for clarifying.
It was really rhetorical.
Yeah. most of us on OTM are pretty loyal fans, but right about now there will be a few bandwagoners who will make a quick account and try and blend in on the site.
No team is perfect, no team has all completely royal fans. If you thought your team was like that, then you are wrong. Of course there have been more Red Sox fans because we have been winning. Of course there will be more Rays fans becasue they are winning. Nobody can stop them.

Well, technically, all the teams that came in the 60s or later were after the Sox to sign african-americans. I get your point, though, at the time.
