Annoying Media Trend: Ignoring Andrew Friedman
Visual representation of my argument:

Simple oversight or would TBS (and the rest of the media) rather not describe the lovable and fun Rays as a "sabermetric" team? Quantitative analysis seems like a four letter word to most people in the media.

It is amazing the lack of credit the FO is receiving...
The only mention of the FO at all is talking about how low the payroll is, and how they build through the draft.
Then you get a moron like Harold Reynolds(who I actually like, but he is a moron) talking about all the highly drafted guys on the roster, and makes it sound like they are all #1 picks.
Hell 5 of the starting 9 on the field yesterday were acquired through FA or trades(6 of 10 when you include Floyd at DH).
the greatest was
when Reynolds basically said Crawford stole 2nd because we drafted him early and paid him a lot.
I didn’t know being drafted early gives you more speed!
I liked Reynolds when he was covering the Little League World Series.
He found his calling there, he should stick to covering 12 year olds.

Michael Jackson did.

"Then you get a moron like Harold Reynolds (who I actually like, but he is a moron)"
I agree with this statement. He isn’t too insightful, but he’s still a step ahead of the pompous blowhards on the FOX broadcasts or the conceited retardedness of Joe Morgan or incoherent drunkeness of Rick Sutcliffe.
Plus, someone has to offset Orsillo’s deadpan by filling the clownish sidekick role usually held by Jerry Remy.
Speaking of which, Orsillo better not be an announcer for the ALCS. If he is, Magrane better be in the booth as color commentator.
Caray and Martinez are the announcers for the CS.

Yeah.
A trade for Gary Thorne would be nice, but I guess he is doing ESPN radio.
Speaking of which, the quality of MLB’s national TV coverage has steadily deteriorated since 1989 when they left ABC with Thorne, Al Michaels and Jim Palmer and the long baseball tradition of NBC with Vin Scully / Garagiola / Costas for CBS $,$$$,$$$,$$$. CBS was decent (Stockton/Kaat/McDonough/Jack Buck) once the playoffs rolled around but otherwise sporadic, then the ABC/NBC “Baseball Network” setup failed due to the strike and since then FOX has just been unbearable on all levels.
For the future, we’ll probably see less and less of baseball on ESPN once the MLB Network launches; almost certainly no more “Baseball Tonight” once their contract expires. I guess that leaves more time for insidious soccer, WNBA or Brett Favre retirements.
Now you kids get off my lawn.
It's okay
If we survive we get Joe Buck and Tim McGarver!! Oh Joy!!

Anyone think we'll get Scully for a game if the Dodgers make the WS?
I would be disgusted if that doesn’t happen.
It made me laugh
at all the attention they have to the catwalks
I’ve seen every game there on TV for several years, and it so rarely comes into play, it should be a non-issue
Unless your name is Epstein
no FO is mentioned too much, except for Cashman and that’s for the wrong reasons

He will be here
On ESPN Radio. Yes, Joe Morgan I believe will be here along with Jon Miller.
Joe
I wonder if he'll know anything about the Rays
What’s the under/over on number of Fred McGriff/Wade Boggs/Floriday Marlins references?
Beyond the Boxscore // Calling BJ Upton lazy is lazy.
Orsillo
I didn’t find that bad now. He ususally plays a different role with Remy since there is more “comedy” on NESN, but at least Orsillo broadcasted 18 Rays games this year,
Now its on to Buck “Perfection” Martinez and Chip Caray along with Ron Darling. I hope there isn’t any bias. Martinez should know, he has his morning XM show and does a lot of business in north Pinellas.
Joe
He lives in Palm Harbor
but he never gives much love to the Rays, don’t know why, except maybe because he’s the O’s announcer sometimes
I’ve called him many times and he had been rather negative toward the Rays
They'll drop the sabermetrics bombshell during the World Series
I'm laughing at the superior intellect.

Reynolds? Sabermetrics?
Did you really expect those rejects to talk about that?

On an OT subject for a second
I’ve gotta say i love the new slogan for the site. However, I think it would get the point across best if “bitches” was added to the end of the statement.

The Mariners might boast the highest ratio of fan intelligence to organization intelligence
Anyone else close? And which team would be at the opposite end?

Baltimore up until this year
Pittsburgh up until this year, Cincy still (if you could divide by zero), San Fran, There are quite a few bad FO’s in baseball, but that number is getting smaller year-to-year which makes winning even better.

I guess that makes:
Don Zimmer = Major Major Major Major
BJ Upton = Doc
Troy Percival = Snowden
Matt Garza = Youssarian
Fernando Perez = Clevenger
Jason Hammel = Nately’s whore
Vogt early, Vogt often.
By and large, Friedman gets lumped into the Moneyball disciples who have turned statistical analysis into an art form. And yes, there is a lot of that going on. But Friedman is more than that. He’s an information gatherer with a good instincts. And when it comes to stretching a dollar, the government should be on the phone asking for tips.
Because Billy Beane has never made financially savvy moves.
