huh..
that is weird.
2-21-08 $338 on the Rays to win the Pennant at 95:1 = $32,448. -bet placed by the new Matt Garza Fan Club Preisdent.

not that i remember that well,
but i would think that July was his month of rolling over on the ball and pulling everything.

for those that are kinda dumb, what is so odd about this?

Month of July where he just seems extraordinarily unlucky, as opposed to every other month where he seems kinda lucky.
Vogt early, Vogt often.

isn't that normal for hitters though? don't a lot of players go into slumps? i wouldn't be surprised if Pena has a month where he was much worse than his other months.

Every player does.
But normally not to the extent of a sub-.100 BABIP.

what site has babip for each month?
by walkoffwalk on Nov 13, 2008 11:22 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
only one other Ray had a month with a BABIP below .100
Riggo, also in July, in 11 BIP (Gross had 16 BIP).
Gomes BABIP was .198 over 177 ABs. Doesn’t help when your FB% is 56, and LD is 11%.

What was Gross' LD% in July?
I could be wrong though

hmmm
He had 1 LD the whole month. If I’m doing it correctly (LD/BIP), then his LD% was a measly .063. The only non-HR hit he had was the LD. His xBABIP for the month would have been .183. Not a great hitting month, but he was still unlucky.
For future reference, Fangraphs.com has all this information.
