It sounded like a cost issue. If what’s been leaked out through the years is true, Stu’s people weren’t confident enough on McCutchen to spend the money on him, and Naimoli’s people weren’t confident enough in Carillo to spend the money on him, so they compromised and drafted the guy they knew would sign for way under slot that both of them liked enough.

still better than Townsend though! He actually reached the majors, Townsend can’t reach AAA and he um…..once had a no hitter( was it a perfect game?) into the 8th!
I think he used whatever ability he had in that game, he was never productive again.
