Bartlett Finished Ahead of Ichiro, Kinsler and Teixeira in MVP Vote
Pedroia won the award, but who cares. Jason Bartlett finished 18th, baby. Pena finished 9th and Longoria 11th, but Bartlett is the MVP of our hearts

And aside from a single 3rd place vote for Pena, he got the highest vote-rank of all Rays
Who’s laughing now? Huh?? Huh??
….I’ll show myself out.

Are you saying he should have won?

He shouldn't have finished 10th.
3rd at absolute worst.

Eh
People get way too worked up over where particular players finished and how individual writers voted.
As to Pedroia, I don’t really have a problem with him winning. I don’t think there really was a clear-cut statistical winner, so it looks like a lot of voters applied the ‘best player on a playoff-ish team’ test.
The number of Top-5 or Top-10 finishes in MVP voting may have predictive value for future HOF results, but outside of that, it really isn’t all that important. Few if anyone can recite that type of info w/o the help of BB-Ref.

I do find it hillarious that Bartlett got a 5th place vote

K-Rod placed 6th.
That trumps the ridiculousness of Bartlett’s one vote.
I know that's a pisser, baby.

Topkin had K-Rod 4th and Barty 5th.
Jesus he needs to stick to facts reporting.

Pedroia was a valid choice
He led the league in doubles and runs scored, and is an above average defensive player. He’s still a tool, though.

35 doubles at home
I wonder how many were BS Fenway doubles. I hate this twerp.

That cuts both ways though
Free doubles and robbed home runs.

Not really
The Monster adds as many homers as it takes away. It also turns a lot of routine fly balls into 2Bs or HRs.

Longo should of finished in the top 10

No way man
The way the Rays tanked after he was out of the lineup proved his value
by GomesSweetGomes on Nov 18, 2008 2:41 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Aybar hit the piss out of the ball in his absence and we didn't tank.
Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found
a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up
that much.

Me either
But I was sharing a spot of tea with your mother recently and she told me she was surprised you outlived the coathanger treatment 2 months before your birth, and even more surprised you lived through the ensuing retardation. Then I ever so gently corn-holed her while listening to Rammstein. A pleasant time was had by all.

I like Los being one point behind Arod
and Longoria sandwiched between the run away Cy Young and the MVP of the AL according to Justin.

I would take Mauer over Pedroia so much so it's not even funny.
Then Youk gets 3rd place while Teixiera almosts missed the list completely.(I realize he was only in the AL for about 200 AB’s).
The “Boston Bias” is pretty clear on that list.

The voters should have a piece of paper with line, pick your guy--who is it gonna be? whoever gets the most votes wins. This way people like Bartlett aren't in the discussion.

This.
If you vote someone second, he isn’t your MVP then is he?

Topkin gave Bartlett the 5th place vote
http://blogs.tampabay.com/rays/
Times baseball writer Marc Topkin was one of 28 BBWAA members to vote for the AL MVP award. His ballot:
1. Dustin Pedroia, Red Sox
2. Joe Mauer, Twins
3. Josh Hamilton, Rangers
4. Frankie Rodriguez, Angels
5. Jason Bartlett, Rays
6. Carlos Quentin, White Sox
7. Justin Morneau, Twins
8. Kevin Youkilis, Red Sox
9. Carlos Pena, Rays
10. Grady Sizemore, Indians

At least he had Mauer way high, and Morneau lower than most.
And he had Sizemore on the ballot, unlike half the voters. But yeah…

It can't be an awful ballot
if you do not know the reasoning behind it. I like the first two picks and don’t think there is anything wrong with having Hamilton, Quentin, Morneau, Youklis and Sizemore somewhere on the ballot. I think even Pena could be somewhere near the bottom. So in my view, the only really bad choice is Rodriguez.
As for Bartlett, I suppose if you want to make a point about it, you could put him at 10. Five is much too high in my view, but once you get to the middle of the ballot, writers will often go home town or use it to highlight a particular view of things.

This is why the voters should only vote for one player. Why vote for a 10th place MVP?

You've brought this up before and it's a bad idea.
