Cruel World
I know Tommy has made this point all ready, but Jeremy Affeldt and Troy Percival are making the same amount of money next season. In case you missed it: Affeldt was pretty good in 2008, and is the better bet moving forward. I'm not overly upset about missing out on him, but I can't help but think we're in limbo until we hear whether or not Percival is going to retire.
If you read this for some reason Troy, please retire. It's not that we hate you, it's just that we love the money you'll free up a lot more.

I don't see him leaving that kind of money on the table
And I hope the Rays don’t feel compelled to give him a roster spot just because he’s wasting money. It may be the best option is to pay him 4 million not to pitch.

If I hypothetically knew a guy that could turn him into gator bait
would we still have to pay him? Hypothetically?
Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found
a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up
that much.

Guaranteed contract money, so yes
but yes plz to Percy getting eaten by gators.
I know that's a pisser, baby.
I'm against this
The Gators will need Harvin down the stretch

If the gators eat percy
the entire team will get indigestion
I could be wrong though

I think you missed the point
I understand it is hard being a Junior isn’t it?

I was hoping since it was Tuesday
that not every discussion would allow the stench of UF football to permeate through. I guess I was wrong.
Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found
a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up
that much.

I'm a Cuse fan
NCAAFB discussion left my vocab about 9 weeks ago. Lets go Devendorf and avoid the NIT this year.

I hope you're right
If for any reason the Gators need a good team or 2 on their non-conference slate, which currently looks very weak

9 weeks or 9 years?

Pretty close
I grew up watching/listening to McNabb, Harrison, Conrad, Bullock, Freeney, and for the last decade it has been garbage.

I wonder how much salary the Rays would have to eat
to move him, if any.
Someone will be desperate enough to take a gamble on Percy for 2MM and a bag of high quality balls. Or 4MM, if the Rays don’t eat salary. Tigers comes to mind. Or Mets. He had 28 LOLsaves.
2MM can go a long way.
I know that's a pisser, baby.
That's almost 6 guys on the Marlins
Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found
a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up
that much.

Technically, yes
But it’s not exactly fair to compare pre-arb players to a 38 y/o. 2 million buys a lot in terms of future players, but doesn’t help all that much for 2009.

Percy to Mets for future cash considerations.
Done.

On a serious Percy-to-Mets note.
if the Rays can’t just “dump” Percy on the Mets, why not do a Percy for Scott Schowenweiss (sp?) swap. Mets have a glut of LOOGYs, and Show commands 3MM next year. Use Percy’s money to fill a real need.
I don’t know if Show is signed beyond 2009 though. If he were, then the deal would be a no go.
I know that's a pisser, baby.
That means no Cali or Rheino though :<

If Omar Minaya does that, that would be awesome.
The Rays save 2MM AND get a potential platoon guy for RF/DH.
I mean, Omar must be attracted to the idea of Percival and K-Rod pitching together again, right?
I know that's a pisser, baby.
shit we maybe able to rip them off again for percy
ask them for fernando martinez and see what they say, oh wait duquette isnt their GM anymore damnit!
everything Rays,Marlins,Twins and Reds
Trade Percy to San Diego for a 6 pack of fish tacos
and we pick up half his salary.
Man I hate the fact Affeldt went to the Giants as a great pitcher while we’re stuck with a guy who should be a bullpen coach for the same price.

PS Don’t pull some bullshit examples of a game here or there he managed to do his job; he’s too old, and you know you hated it when you saw him get put in with the lead.
