Red Sox trade for a pitcher

The Rangers traded Wes Littleton to the Red Sox today. Littleton had been DFA'ed by Texas on November 20th. Not sure I can see where he would fit on the Sox major league staff, but he would add some depth at Pawtucket. He didn't have a win or a loss during the current season, but he's still young enough to have some value down the road.

it's frustrating
to see Boston beefing up their pen and us sitting on our hands. These are some of the little moves Friedman should be making. They already had a solid pen and with the addition of ramirez and littleton, could be dominant. The middle relief was the problem for them last year, and they are doing a good job of fixing that.

It's a long offseason
The trade for a meh RHP isn’t going to cause me to worry. They had guys that were better in the bigs than this guy has been in the minors.

The Rays are better off waiting
With the exception of the F.A.T. market, of course (come on, pick up Rheinecker, Cali, etc.)
IF the Rays target a big name FA McLefty (which I still think they shouldn’t, but that’s just me), there’s a huge glut of relievers/LOOGYs on the FA market and its smarter to wait. Ohman, Shouse, Beimel, Miller (no, he hasn’t “officially” signed yet so technically, he’s still available), Rhodes, and this is not including the “big fish” like K-Rod, Fuentes, Hoffman, Wood, Cruz, Lyon, and the probable availability of Street and/or Putz via trade. When guys aren’t signed in late January/early February, prices will plummet.
And. Littleton’s just a 26yo semi-prospect arm. There’s a good chance he doesn’t make it out of AAA.
I know that's a pisser, baby.

You're probably right.
Don’t see why he would’ve been DFA’d if he had options.

Littleton
has great stuff, just fell out of favor here in Texas with Ron Washington. Overall, a pretty decent pickup for the RedSox.

Unfortunately
I don’t see us making moves until the bargain bin happens in January. We will make the right moves but we will have to look at what’s left. Hopefully we can fill a need with Edwin as bait. Winter Meetings are coming soon.

Sox Bullpen
These RH bullpen additions add depth and possibly allow us (the red sox) to move masterson to the rotation, or in a trade for a catcher. Personally, I like him where he is, and ideally, him and papelbon would anchor the 8th and 9th innings for the next 6+ years. However, I wouldn’t be too upset if they made one of the aforementioned moves.
