Rays Still Like Heilman
Remember those Edwin for Heilman rumors some time ago? Ken Davidoff suggests the Rays still like him. Heilman had an awful season in 2008 and saw his HR/BIA%, amongst other things, shoot up. He'll likely regress, although his tRA* has increased each of the last few years.

Mmmmm.
He would be a buy low guy, and if the Rays got him, he’d go to the pen.
Except…the Rays would still need another lefty coming out of the pen. JP alone can’t do all the lefty work.
This.

I'd take Heilman in a flash
but we definitely need to work on finding a second lefty for the pen.

Mets want Sonny or Edwin in a deal
How much would it cost to get Fernando Martinez? Think its even possible?

I think its very possible.
The Mets HAVE to make playoffs this year, or Omar’s job security could be at risk. It’s NY.

I'm a Mets and a Rays fan
and I can’t think there is a match for F-Mart. F-Mart wouldn’t go for Edwin or Sonny, and I don’t think the Rays would even think about a Garza/F-Mart and friends trade.

re: I'd take Heilman in a flash
Why? He’s 29 years old. On and off the disable list. Other than the fact that he was picked in the first round I don’t see any upside. It’s not like he’ll chew up innings. Asking for Sonny is just ridiculous. Even Jackson who drives me crazy has better upside and trade potential.

seperate deals
they dont want 1 of them for Heilman, they want 1 of them and Heilman has to be one of the pieces going to the Rays

Heilman would be a piece in the deal, not the entire deal.
I think the centerpiece would be a guy like Nick Evans (slot him in at RF), or maybe even Fernando Martinez (aim high).
Sonny and EJax are worth a LOT more than Heilman.
This.

I think Rays should forget Heilman
and go strong after F-Mart. Lets get him for Jackson and steal another deal from the Mets.

Why does F-Mart make any sense? He's at least a year away from the big leagues and 2-3 years away from making an impact.
We’re playing for now, we need talent that is ready to step in and help the big league team.

That makes sense
I was looking at the various Mets blogs and they appear to be looking for a straight up deal

Taking a guy like Hielman doesn't make any sense right now.
Especially at the price of Ejax or Sonny.
The Rays lost the World Series to bad umpires, Mother Nature, and the Philadelphia Phillies.

I agree
We should be looking for a replacement for Miller and a closer.
