Swisher on the Block
Article says the WhiteSox are looking for speed in return. Maybe Nando for Swisher? I'd assume they'd want more seeing how much it took to get him, but who knows.

I love Nando
but I would take that deal in a second, I don’t think the White Sox will do it. They would want one of our pitchers also, though not a Wade Davis type, more like Jeff Niemann or less, I think.

the article mentions Willy Tavarez
Nando>Tavarez

well hey
if they would do it straight up, sign me up. He is no gold glover but he is at least acceptable(not like Gomes or Hinske) at many positions and can swing a great bat(ok maybe he sucked last year but I think he hated Chicago)

If we were guaranteed 2006, or 2007 Swisher, then yes I would go for it.
If not, we can trade Perez for someone a lot better then Swisher.

I'm not sure that 2008 Swisher is any different
His batting average was just lower. Everything else was about the same, which implies that he was mostly unlucky last year.
I’m okay with buying low, but they’re not going to sell Swisher off just for Nando or Jackson. Doesn’t help the lopsidedness of the lineup though. One more guy who can mash righties but not really hit lefties.

Scratch that
Just looked at his career splits, he can hit lefties as well as righties.

Swisher would be an upgrade from Hinske
But, I don’t know if I would be inclined to give up a “Perez” I think Perez can offer us a little more then what Swisher can.
But, the bottom line is: RFO brought the Tampa Bay area a pennant 40+ million dollars payroll. I will just shut up and watch what they can do this year. If the RFO says Swisher will work, then he will probably work.

Like drafting Wade Townsend worked
Or leaving Josh Hamilton unprotected worked, or not drafting Joakim Soria in Rule 5 worked.
Even smart front offices make mistakes, and what’s the point of being a fan if you can’t question the decisions that are being made?

Don't open the Hamilton can of worms again
Who knows what he would have done if he did not get out of the region. It is all conjecture. As for Soria, coming into the 2007 season the bullpen was the least of our worries.

still have to be 1000% satisfied with the F.O of the year
Questioning the front office is about the best thing going in baseball outside of the games. I like how our front office excels when they are active taking a page out of Beanes book of market inefficiencies (thank you spell check) , every team makes those passive mistakes on Rule 5 drafts and the first year player draft or it would be 5 rounds deep. It would obviously be great to have Hamilton and Soria as unrealistic as it is, but it does give us a lot to talk about everyday.

It's always fun to talk about the "whats ifs".
We have had some very good fortune though, finding Carlos Pena, and fact that Luke Hochevar and Greg Reynolds were drafted before Longoria.

I'm not opening up the can of worms
Merely pointing out that the front office isn’t infallable and can (and should) be questioned.
Why do you keep twisting my arguments lately?

Your argument hinges on whether or not Hamilton would have put up the same numbers here
Don’t confuse being objective with twisting arguments. I also agree they should be held accountable, but would not use a “woulda, coulda, shoulda” as my argument. I think the most legitimate complaint would be giving Percival 2/8 at his advanced age and declining health.

No, it doesn't
Whether or not Hamilton would have put up the same numbers here, he would have been an improvement here in the past two years over Young/Dukes in center and Gross/Hinske in right. Even if he didn’t make it to the majors as quickly, he’s still an asset that was given up for free, and purely in hindsight (I supported the move at the time as well) it was a mistake.

Errors of Omission
Those are the ones the Rays have made. The same ones every team, but Cinci made, in this case. The same ones everyone made in Soria’s case. The key is, though, they haven’t made errors of commission. These are the errors that kill financially-strapped teams.

Ozzie Guillen is a douche bag
Swisher just didn’t feel like dealing with his shit and was probably miserable in Chicago which could of played a big part in his rough season

He looks like a douche...
Swisher could be great for this team and even in his worst year put up better numbers than CC’s worst and can easily out OPS CC on a regular year also he is still young. He’s a really great club house guy that would fit in perfectly in Maddons relaxed system too. He does a weekly interview on a Chicago based network (Chi Sports Net ch 665 on directtv) and comes off as the perfect guy you want on your team and to knock back a few with, also is he has a reputation as a notoriously good prankster. Also he became a fan fav in chicago around spring training.

Swisher was well liked in Oakland, FWIW.

Swisher last year
Most of his numbers besides his BABIP were right around his career averages. His LD% rate (20.9) was actually higher than his career average (19). This fact coupled with the .251 BABIP would suggest he was incredibly unlucky last year. With a .285 BABIP (around his career norm outside of this year), he would add about .20 to his BA, OBP, and SLG. That puts him at .239/.352/.430/.782. That also assumes that his average would increase solely due to singles (which seems unlikely given his high LD rate). It’s still a career low, but there’s no reason to think last year wasn’t merely a fluke, and that he can’t rebound.

Watching Swish play I never really got the love-fest that follows him around
Maybe it’s just my short-term memory being stronger as last year was awful. 2006 and 07 were very good years. His Babip was .231 this year, his foul balls increased at expense of his balls in play, and his FB rate jumped up a notch at the expense of his GB rate. On the plus side he saw 4.5 P/PA this year which is incredible. His RZR in CF was between Torii and Beej, but if it was so good why did he get so many games at 1B? If he cost us virtually nothing I would bring him in, but would not like to see us give up much value.
On a side note the rotowire ticker on the left mentions that the Mets are saying they have spoke with us about Sonny and Jax. Jackson for Church I would do in a heartbeat.

Swish-RF/Butler-DH 2009?
I’d vote for that.
I don’t know enough about Church really, looking at his career numbers, he is pretty good at getting on base, but it seems that he has never really had a full year, he played 144 games in Washington in 07’ but that is by far his most.

Church has many cons, but I drool when I see that .830 OPS against righties
