FWIW

I rank Moore ahead of Barnese. Barnese is a level higher while only being 6 months older, but relative to what other guys have done in Princeton versus what other guys have done in Hudson Valley, Moore’s stats seem more impressive to me. Also, a lefty who pumps mid-90’s fastballs is a rarer commodity than a righty with a low-90’s sinker with good movement.

BARNESE

This is really starting to get down to the bottom.

by Longo4MVP on Dec 18, 2008 5:41 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

No, when we are voting for guys who are roster fillers, then we have hit the bottom.

I know it’s fun to remind myself of how much good talent the Rays have in the minors.

FTFY
I know it’s fun to remind myself of how much good pitching the Rays have in the minors.

Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up that much.

You don't think the Rays have an abundance of good hitters?

(I don’t really know, I’m just asking.)

Mariners ----> Brewers.

by Taylor H on Dec 18, 2008 11:51 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

It seems like we have good athletes like Fernando and DJ,

and perhaps we are greedy after seeing the talent come through, but there isn’t another Longo, or a Jay Bruce, Chase Headley, Matt LaPorta coming through. Then again, most teams don’t have those guys and that is what makes them so special. So as I talk out of both sides of my mouth let me finish by saying that maybe that is our point. Pitching is constantly getting recycled and is too expensive on the market, but once you have a good hitter he is locked in for a long time.

Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up that much.

Sure, I understand that.

You guys don’t have a Truinfel equivalent at the moment, then?

Mariners ----> Brewers.

I am going back to Moore

and not leaving him til he wins….which hopefully will be this round.

by joeybw on Dec 18, 2008 9:39 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

I really like these two

Barnese:
2007: 18® FIP 2.26
2008: 19 (A-) 1.99

Moore:
2007: 17® 3.64
2008: 18® 1.64

Both have killer k/9 (>11), and neither walk that much. Any chance they both start in A ball next year?

The best part is looking at our top 11 (assuming these two are 10 and 11) compared to other systems. WOW.

For the record, I voted for Barnese just because he’s a little more proven, but it was a toss-up to me. I also have both of these guys ahead of Perez.

Moore turns 20 in June this year

So he played almost all of 2007 at age 18, and almost all of last year at age 19.

They should both start in Bowling Green, IMO

I know they usually don’t skip guys(like skipping Moore over Hudson Valley) but I think they’ll hold both of them back in XST for a month to keep their innings controlled a bit, and then get them to Bowling Green.

If I recall, they held Hellickson back in 2007 before sending him to Columbus(unless there was an injury that I’m forgetting).

Ah, thought there might be something.

I still think it wouldn’t be a bad idea to hold Barnese and Moore in XST for a month.

I wish we had more hitters that deserved to be top 10

Shame Joyce had too many AB’s last season….

He will still be a rookie going into this year

Which means we have him for 6 years at least, Glorrrious

Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up that much.

by Sandy Kazmir on Dec 18, 2008 10:43 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

It doesn't matter, we'll have 6 more years of him.

If we didn’t sign Longoria to a LTD he would still have been under team control for 6 more years because of how the service time rules work.

Yeah this is what I was referring to

I wouldn’t realistically expect him to be in the running for ROY. Also, I haven’t read anywhere on his option situation. Anybody got that?

Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up that much.

Thanks Brick

Nice to know that we also get rid of a guy with no options for a guy with all of them.

Will Kline?

Whats up with him? He was our #2 pick in the David Price draft. Havn’t eard a thing about him.

by bucpimpin on Dec 18, 2008 11:17 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Doubt it.

He was a college senior when picked and wasn’t overly impressive then from what I can recall. He had one game where he went bullet for bullet with Price.

by R.J. Anderson on Dec 18, 2008 12:05 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Kline wasn't a college senior

That was Newmann, who hasn’t even thrown a pitch yet after being our fourth rounder. I guess that’s why a pitcher with second round stuff fell to the 4th.

Vogt early, Vogt often.

by Brickhaus on Dec 18, 2008 1:06 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Year 1 - signed late

Year 2 – blew out his arm early

Who the heck knows what his potential is. He was an overdraft when we picked him initially, and the fact that he wouldn’t even sign for slot and then got hurt really stings a bit.

Vogt early, Vogt often.

by Brickhaus on Dec 18, 2008 1:05 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

So he should be fine for the start of this year? Same with Newman?

Its just important we keep the stream of prospects rolling.

by bucpimpin on Dec 18, 2008 2:36 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

It will still be a year recovering from injury

So he probably won’t be back to 100%. Also, the nature of his injury was a type that not many guys come back from successfully.

Vogt early, Vogt often.

by Brickhaus on Dec 18, 2008 3:53 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

It was Kline's second big surgery

He had Tommy John surgery in high school, and labrum surgery now. I’m not optimistic about getting anything from him.
