Best rotation in the AL East?

The Yankees' rotation should (make that, had better) be improved from 2008, with Sabathia and Burnett atop it, but can we say with any certainty that it's now pound-for-pound superior to the Rays' or the Red Soxs'? I don't think so.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/ben_reiter/12/24/teixeira.yankees/index.html

I know the Red Sox and Yanks probably will sign another starter apiece but what rotation do you have?

Rays: Kazmir, Shields, Garza, Price, Sonnanstine

Red Sox: Beckett, Lester, Dice-K, Wakefield, Masterson

Yankees: Sabathia, Burnett, Wang, Chamberlin, Hughes

In terms of FIP

The Yanks rotation should easily be better than the other two, but their defense will make the rotation look worse than it really is.

They are top heavy, we are the best 1-5

1. Sabathia > Beckett > Shields (Unless Beckett has a lasting injury)
2. Lester > Burnett > Kazmir
3. Garza > Wang > Dice-K (That is nothing more than a projection, I feel Garza will have a cy young 09)
4. Price = Chamberlain >>>>>>> Wakefield (Price and Joba both have great stuff and very limited starting experience)
5. Sonny > Hughes > Masterson (Again, a prediction, I say he gets the 5th spot but he SHOULD stay a MR)

Masterson > Hughes in long term talent btw

but as a SP, I don’t know…..he should stay as a MR and they should give Buccholz that 5th spot. But they wont, they will either throw cash at someone like Lowe or put Masterson there.

Good for us, bad for them :)

I strongly disagree

If Hughes can stay healthy, which he hasn’t been lately, he’s a special talent. Masterson is more along the lines of good but not great.

I think Hughes got the Yankee prospect treatment

He is good but the only one out of the “Big 3” that is a star is Joba. Hughes got overrated by being in the Yankees farm system. He is a #3 to me and if Masterson stays in MR, he will much more dominant than Hughes.

Case in point: Ian Kennedy… OMG YANKEES HAVE 3 ACES NO JOHAN, god knows when he will even get another shot.

I disagree

I’m probably a little bit biased, but I saw Hughes a few times in Trenton and he had me absolutely convinced he would be a star. I still think he can if he stays healthy.

Even if he is better than I think

If the Yankees sign another SP, Hughes wont even be on the roster anyway.

Anyone in the know think that

Hughes is kind of like our Wade Davis. I could easily see Wade coming up and getting hit around a little and then get this same type of treatment.

Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up that much.

But, on the subject

I still say they have the best SP in the division in Halladay

Blue Jays have an above average rotation when you factor in they're pretty young

but I just don’t see them touching the Rays, Sox, and Yankees. They’re just not very deep after Halladay and Litsch
