Rays sign Joe Nelson
"The Miami Herald reports that the Rays and Joe Nelson have agreed to a one-year, $1.3 million contract.
Good for Nelson. The Marlins only wanted to pay him about half that before non-tendering him. Nelson is 34, so this could well be the biggest payday he's ever going to have"....... rotoworld.com^^
This is good news. We get a guy who had an ERA around 1.75 all year and ended at 2.00. Only paying 1.3 mil doenst sound bad to me. He had a .207 BAA and a .226 BAA the year before

Not a bad move
I like it if it sets up trading Dan Wheeler. I still see Nelson as a less proven, more inconsistent version of Wheeler.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
Wanted him and he was signed
I really want Bradley, lets see if that one happens too.
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
yep
I wasnt sure if we would add a reliever or not, now if we add a nice DH bat we should be good to go
Is D Rod any less likely to make the team now?
depends
If Percy isn’t ready for the start of the season, Rodriguez should get a chance but when he eventually comes off the DL….. I don’t know what the plan would be.

Or
if the rays trade Wheeler or Bradford, they could just fill the last spot internally with Rodriguez getting a good look. While Thayer, Salas, and Talbot could be just as good, they all have minor league options left and can be stashed away. Such a scenerio could allow Rodriguez a shot.

Trade Wheeler plz
And no, I will never get tired of saying that
Bradford is making only 500K more and he comes off the books after this season.
If we trade Wheeler, we replace him with any of the many available options on our team and put his 3 mil towards the DH, where do I sign?

If only I could front page things again. :|
Nellie Breakdown:
39% GB, 24% FB, 22% LD
10.0K/9, 3.67 BB/9, 0.83 HR/9
3.95 tra(111+), 3.97 tra*
3.45 FIP
11.6% Swinging Strike Percentage(This is pretty good)
Projected NLRS 3.9 WAR
I like this
Brad Ziegler had a scoreless inning streak. Brad Ziegler had not met BJ Upton.
Very good stats for 1.3 mil
Seriously, does Friedman even know how to make a bad move?
I hope not!

ERA's not a very good stat for evaluating a pitcher's performance, BUT
this is still a nice move. I like it. Sayonara, Danny.

True
but I dont think you can luck into a 2.00 ERA, especially not with Cantu and Jacobs in your infield : )
You're also correct.
But Nelson’s a flyball pitcher!
Big Z is the MAN.

but they made tons of errors
that wouldn’t affect his ERA. I love the signing but I can’t be a homer, he has a very small chance of being this good again.
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
I wasnt talking about errors
I was talking about an infield that maybe didnt get to many balls, or make many plays
I dont see any evidence that syas he wont repeat last season
