Levine: Bradley to Cubs Done Deal
"The Milton Bradley signing is also a done deal. The team is just waiting for the right time to announce it -- probably when the team officially clears room from the payroll, which is peaked out at about $140 million. "

He just plain doesn't like foreigners
Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up that much.

I suspect that, rather, his problem is with shitty overpaid baseball players.
Also, Piniella has a hard-on for guys who can hit, to the almost complete exclusion of their defensive abilities. One of his only real weaknesses as a manager, IMO.
Patriotism, Pepper, Professionalism
If Piniella plays Reed Johnson in center over Fukudome, he should be fired.

How about one plays CF and the other RF?
Oh, I am not sure I have mentioned this yet…..I want Bradley
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
lets just give someone a one year deal
then give Chipper 2 years w/ health related option for a 3rd year.

Burrell and Dunn would give me a big smile
Not that Giambi and Abreu will have me in tears.

3/30?
With the Cubs close to finalizing another trade — right-hander Jason Marquis to the Colorado Rockies for right-handed reliever Luis Vizcaino — the deals are seen as a precursor to the Cubs negotiating a deal with free-agent outfielder Milton Bradley.
The Washington Nationals are believed to have offered Bradley $30 million over three years, and the Tampa Bay Rays are also in the mix, sources tell ESPN.
I don't like that Washington is in the mix
They’re the only ones in a position to over pay. I don’t mind if he goes there (how many “bad eggs” can you have on one team?) I just don’t want Bowden to give Dunn, Giambi, ect. a higher ceiling to shoot for.
I don't understand the Nationals
They claim that Willingham will NOT play 1B so they already have too many OF’s and now they want Bradley? I still think this is between the Cubs and Rays and the Nats want Dunn.
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
I don't even think 1B is open.
If they sign Dunn/Bradley they’re going to have to trade someone.
Which, if they do sign one of those guys, gives another option via trade I suppose.
I don't even know
What is the status of Nick Johnson? Still hurt or is he actually healthy at the moment and will be hurt again soon?

Waiting for Billy Beane to get him in

Meh, I doubt it happens.
But this thing is so tangled, who knows? If the Nats do end up with Dunn/Bradley it only makes Johnson that much more available. Thus leading to a decreased interest/leverage against Giambi…
Its like a soap opera.
I believe he died 2 years ago when he stuck a steroid needle in his ass and his massive head exploded.
I don't think this Bradley thing is so sure anymore
They want Peavy, they can’t afford both.
COME ON RAYS, STEP UP AND SIGN HIM!

Deal isn't done
Cubs still working on it. This is where Friedman shows off his true awesomness, lets do this!
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
At more than 3yrs/30M, if we can get Giambi, Dunn, or Burrell cheaper, then we should do it instead.
On the other hand, if the Rays were willing to spend this much on him but got beat to this offer by the Cubs, then that is a mistake in my eyes.
I'd actually be more impressed
if we end up being the third or fourth team to sign one of these guys and end up with Burrell.
UZR/150 for 2008
Soriano -3.1 LF
Fukedome 10.6 OF
Bradley 7.3 OF in 20 g’s
I never really thought Bradely to Cubs made a lot of sense and this might seem to confirm it.
Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up that much.

I think the Cubs are taking a huge gamble signing him to play in their OF, and I don’t think it’s going to pay off. I wouldn’t want Bradley playing OF for my team, even as an above average defender, he’s still too much of an injury risk.
I hadn't realized he only played 20 games for Texas last year. He's a DH pure and simple.

How about the Cubs find that out the hard way
and basically give him to us at midseason? Make them eat some salary and cry themselves to sleep.
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
His problem again isn't that he's not a good fielder
It’s that he gets hurt every time he does. If that happens, the Rays aren’t going to want him either.
Comment from tbfan
I was hoping that Tampa might get in there by now and sign Bradley. I am really disappointed in the Ray’s lack of interest in going after any free agents. I know being cost-conscious has always been key for them, but there needs to be some improvement from last year considering they are playing against the Yankees and the Red Sox. Bradley would have been a great DH who could play right two or three time a week for the Rays.
Glad we will not get Bradley
Remember this guy has had 400 ABs twice in nine seasons. Wrong side of 30 and too big a risk. This front office’s first major free agent signing should not come with that much risk. Need someone on a 1 to 2 year deal only. Save the money for years when Garza, Navarro, etc. are more expensive.
Is that a sure thing now?
Because the latest I heard, it is still between the Cubs, Rays and for some reason, the Nationals
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
Also, if the Cubs are interested?
When have they made a good move? They are the LA Clippers of baseball, thank goodness the Rays no longer hold that type of moniker.
I get the feeling Bradley really wants to be in the AL as a DH...
And he’s using the Cubs to drive up his price.
but that wont work for the Rays
maybe if the Angels, Yankees, or Red Sox wanted/needed him but we aren’t gonna give him 15 mil per or something
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
lulz
According to MLB.com’s Bill Ladson, the Nationals have serious interest in free agent Milton Bradley. The Nats would try Bradley in center field. Bradley is the Cubs’ top target to play right field, so there could be a battle for his services.
Ladson adds that Adam Dunn and Orlando Hudson also remain on Washington’s radar. It seems that they intend to sign at least one solid free agent after failing to sign Mark Teixeira.
Washington's top 8 offensive players will be...
1) 3b
2-8) corner outfield
I really dont get this. They sucked last year, and seem to think they should add players that play excusively the OF. Which is already the only position they nearly looked like a ML team at last year
Oh bowden, you so crazy.
Brad Ziegler had a scoreless inning streak. Brad Ziegler had not met BJ Upton.
oh fuck a bidding war with the Cubs and Bowden
Pat Burrell please, kay, thanks

It solidifies finishing under 3rd place.

3.81 ERA for the Rays in 89 innings in 2006
He is not nearly that good, I’ll give you that. But as a guy who can give you 20+ starts at around a 5 ERA for a team with maybe 1 legit ML arm in the rotation I think he will help ease the pain of the ‘09 season for the O’s
over the last 3 years
as a reliever:
IP: 89
H/9: 7.5
ERA: 3.11
K/9: 7.3
BB/9: 2.2
HR/9: 0.7
OppBA: .230
OppOBP: .277
as a starter:
IP: 331.1
H/9: 10.5
ERA: 5.38
K/9: 3.2
BB/9: 3.2
HR/9: 1.1
OppBA: .293
OppOBP: .351
It clearly makes absolutely no sense to use him as a starting pitcher and if the Orioles are adding him to work in the rotation, that’s why they are the crappy Orioles. They’re setting him up for failure.
by Jason Collette on Dec 31, 2008 7:56 PM EST up reply actions
It makes no sense for your average ML team to puut Hendy in the rotation
But the Orioles have possibly the worst rotation in baseball Im sure they are just signing him to eat up innings
