My Change of Stance on Del-ME Young

article on yahoo, on Delmon Young. Decent read, but lengthy. A lot of it is Delmon's dad talking about the "new" Delmon, and his upbringing.

reading this article HURTS

It hurt knowing Delmon is NOT one of the true greats.

He doesn't have that ability to use his superstar talent to transcend the game in any situation he is put in. With his talent, he should've came on the scene and blown the game away. Rather than needing to be placed in a more historic franchise, with more established players, to bring the game out of him.

He is a fraud, and I feel robbed of my hopes that Delmon would become a 'special' player for my D Rays, and also on the $80 I dropped on what is now a throwback, rookie, Delmon Young Devil Ray jersey.

It's not like he can blame Tampa for not feeling the way he does in Minny, when he was here. I just feel jealous that they will get a happy, great player that we could never get, because of his own character flaws. Here are some parts of the article that explain more of what I mean...

The New Delmon is more open to suggestions and advice. The New Delmon just wants to fit in, do things the right way and pile up the victories....

He has marveled at the presence of former Twins greats Rod Carew, Paul Molitor and Tony Oliva, and even looked a little starry-eyed when talking about former MVP Justin Morneau and former batting champ Joe Mauer.

"It's a real treat. It's like going to a baseball camp, almost," Young said.

The good vibes don't surprise Dmitri Young, who long admired the Twins organization while playing with AL Central-rival Detroit.

"Having a place with some structure, knowing his place, and knowing that he can become the superstar he always was able to, instead of having a place like where he was at," the older brother said. "Where they always lingered on what he did in the past, instead of looking to the future."

The Old Delmon stood out for all the wrong reasons.

The New Delmon, Larry Young says, "doesn't want to stick out in Minnesota unless he's sticking out on top."
