Price Leaves Game

From tampabay.com

Top draft pick LHP David Price left a minor-league exhibition start Thursday after feeling some "discomfort" in his elbow and will see Dr. Koco Eaton in the next few days, but the Rays say they don't consider it anything serious.

First Kazmir, now Price with arm trouble?  Shitske.

Also worth noting, ESPN reports the Blue Jays released Reed Johnson. He's been noted in the fishwraps as an option for the vacancy of Rocco's spot, we'll see.

Re: Price Leaves Game
I just checked Reed Johnson's career stats (and last years). If the Rays sign this guy I'm gonna throw up.

Re: Price Leaves Game
Yeah, he's not a major league baseball player by any stretch of the imagination. I'd rather see Gomes in the lineup than him.

Reed Johnson is not an upgrade.

Re: Price Leaves Game
Not an upgrade from who? Jon Weber? Or Guzman (platooning?) at 3B? Johnson can hit a bit, plays good D, can fill in CF.

Coco's gonna cost - both in players (and not somebody like Hammel) and $ - and Boston has no need to give him away. And since golden boy Ellsbury hasn't torn up ST they'll probably hold Coco for insurance and / or a decent return.

Johnson's available for a contract, which could come in at over minimum (there will be some other bidders) but not too high. Now there might be other options in a week, but it seems to me he's better than the current options, and do you want to wait and hope? Coco's still got '09 on his contract for $5.75 mil ($4.75 this year) plus an option buyout. Johnson's a FA after '08, and a guy that could be moved easily at the trade deadline if that made sense.

Isn't it time to do something?

Actually Gomes.

He is a RH LF and well south of .800 OPS at that.  How does this help?

Re: Price Leaves Game
I'll take Eric Hinske over Reed Johnson. I know that he isn't an outfielder by trade, but he has played like he wants to make the team this spring. I would be more inclined to give it to a guy like Hinske who also can play some infield postions almost like a super utility guy than to some would be seen as an outsider who has been released by his team. I'm sure there was good reason the Jays let him go.
