Our back-up CF position!!!!

Wat up guys, well since we are looking for depth i think we should really really consider getting Juan Pierre....

He had a horrible spring training, and Joe Torre is trying to trade him away and put him on the waiver wires thing.....

He has 50 plus SB in the last 3 years and he has a whopping 0 HRs last year but the year before he had 3, so who knows? he's also a .295 hitter.....

what do u guys think

???

And he is not a particularly good defensive player.

Gawd no. A pox upon you for suggesting a guy with two first names. We've got what we need and if Upton misses any significant time we're pretty screwed anyway.

Pierre

If the Dodgers will pay for 95% of his contract, I'm all for it.

Ned Colletti is saved from owning the worst contract in baseball by Sabean's inking of Zito. Fitting that one is a disciple of the other.

It's not that we don't like him

I'm sure he's a nice guy on a personal level, and he's certainly done quite well for himself. It's just the tiny matter of him not being good at baseball that hinders people from openly wanting him on their teams, especially at that bloated contract. As Collette said, if Los Angeles will pick up an unprecedented sum of his contract and deal him here at minimal cost, I'm all for it. But the chances of that occurring are so small that it isn't even a realistic possibility worth discussing.

And no, you can't take your post back. This thread will be forever attached to your permanent record of dealings at this site; and you will be blacklisted for having made the suggestion.

Mr. Boricua, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Whose spot on the roster would you be willing for him to take?

YES IT IS, WE DON'T LIKE HIM

I say that with full confidence because we are here posting on a baseball blog, which tells me that we like baseball. If we like baseball, then we cannot like Juan Pierre. HE IS A LEADOFF HITTER WITH A .300 OBS! TO LIKE THAT YOU HAVE TO HATE BASEBALL!

COUNTING STAT ALERT!

Pierre may get a lot of hits, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he gets on base enough to be worth it. If you don't walk, and you are entirely batting average-dependent, and you have no power, you will struggle. Concentrate on OBP, and the deficiencies in Pierre's game become evident very quickly for the type of player that he is.

I'm also going to guess that he has the 2nd most infield hits since 2001 behind Ichiro. Wonderful when they happen, infield hits are essentially a fluke. He's a leadoff guy whose only "offensive" "skill" is bunting. He isn't as good a defender or hitter as Coco Crisp, but at least he costs 3 times as much.

In all seriousness I wish him the best of luck. If he can bring up his BA to .333 for April maybe Ned Colletti will give us Andre Ethier for Cliff Floyd and Trevor Miller.
