03/31/08: RAYS at Baltimore

Tampa Bay @ Baltimore

TV: OVER THE AIR/ION Ch. 66

Introductory Note:

Welcome everyone, this is opening day, and this is our first ever game thread with SBN2.0. Ironically the feel of newness translates over to our team, we've moved forward. This season is about now and later, win enough and we'll get our new ballpark, perhaps save our ace, and maybe gain some new readers (fans) along the way. The title simply means "Start of the future" in Latin, and  I think it fits what we have going on here.

Pitching Matchup:

IP ERA K/9 BB/9 K/BB H/9 OPS HR/9 WHIP G/F P/IP

Final Thoughts:

One of the cool things we can do is schedule game threads to post on their own, meaning no longer is a rushed post needed, so here's an idea, let's play a game inside of the game. Essentially all you have to do is pick a player before the first pitch (today 3:05) and after the game we'll open up a MVP poll, if your player wins you get a point, at the end of a week we'll post the standings. (Note: if one of you guys wants to handle this, just email me or let me know).

So, yeah, we're nearing game time, and I have but two requests from you guys today:

1) Enjoy

2) Let's blow this damn server up! 1,000+ comments today folks, you don't even have to refresh anymore.

Poll
Who was the MVP of today's game?
  • SP Jamie Shields
  • C Dioner Navarro
  • CF B.J. Upton
  • LF Carl Crawford
  • RF Eric Hinske

glad to exchange Q&A

We can do it every series we play, if you want. There'll always be something fresh to talk about.

Good luck this season, Rays fans. Just not for the first three games.

Can Someone Explain

Why we boo Aubrey Huff when he comes to the Trop?

by GomesSweetGomes on Mar 31, 2008 9:20 AM EDT   0 recs

Because he's a jerk

And always was. Unfortunately, he seems to morph into some hybrid of Babe Ruth and Superman when facing us.

by Patrick L. Kennedy on Mar 31, 2008 10:54 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

If there were a website depicting d-bags of baseball

He would most likely be on it

At least we know that a pro player takes the same approach as Pat, watching porn instead of tape...er...right?

He didn't deny it.

Fine

I would like to officially issue a statement denying any association with, or deriving any pleasure from, pornography.

by Matt Bishoff on Mar 31, 2008 9:54 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I have class at 3:30 (central time)

maybe they can start the game at 2, play for an hour and a half, take an afternoon nap or possibly go out for some pizza with the O's, then resume play around 5? Can someone talk to the officials on that one?

I am a teacher and can't get out of school till 4. I really wish my school signed up for Cable in the Classroom! I'm sure I could relate the game to something educational.

by Matt Bishoff on Mar 31, 2008 10:06 AM EDT   0 recs

agree

I can now pay more attention to other things in class, like playing games and not have to change the window.

by SRQman on Mar 31, 2008 10:11 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

so other things in class, like: espn.com, raysbb.com, baseballprospectus.com

by Matt Bishoff on Mar 31, 2008 10:15 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

add shockwave baseball, iming classmates, editing some pictures, baseballamerica.com ... think that is it.

by SRQman on Mar 31, 2008 10:20 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

don't forget inanely staring at the teacher every 5 minutes until you make eye contact so he thinks you are paying attention

by Matt Bishoff on Mar 31, 2008 10:22 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I throw in the occasional "Yeah" or "ORLY?!", The problem is most of my classes lately I don't even have the teacher there.

by SRQman on Mar 31, 2008 10:23 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

are you sure you are going at the right time?

by Matt Bishoff on Mar 31, 2008 10:24 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

My only class is pre-calc.

by SRQman on Mar 31, 2008 10:27 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yeah, English teacher = recovering from surgery, Newspaper = Joke, Computer Programming = Joke, 2 free periods, World War= teacher at a conference,

My only two classes that I have to work in are Art and Pre-calc it is rough.

by SRQman on Mar 31, 2008 10:39 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

stupid filter thing at school

made a double post. ugh sorry

by SRQman on Mar 31, 2008 10:41 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Advice from a college student:

Pre-Calc: you'll never use it unless you become a math major

Art: Just paint some stick figures and they'll give you an A. I made a pinhole camera sophomore year of HS, and the teacher ate it up..poorly made mind you, but they like get all excited at non-useful things and say "ooo! thats soo pretty!*...yea, I dunno bout them Art teachers sometimes

Those other classes...have fun, but since you're in the Tampa area, I'm sure you can find a TV somewhere and watch it..thats what I would do

ah yea...the game starts at 3:05 for you guys...so nevermind, wont have trouble watching it.

Senior year I take it? YEAAAA...blow off year, enjoy it, it gets for cereal in cooolege

Nah, but seriously, I'm a bad influence school wise, pay attention (except for Art, that I give you permission to slack off)

Art I just do the crappiest projects.

Pre-calc sucks I just gotta pass and I am ok

a friend of mine at Chicago is saying they're turning off wireless internet in the classrooms since too many people were doing this

by Albertrayon on Mar 31, 2008 11:02 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

HS? or college? I'd assume HS. Thats pretty lame if I may say so

"There's way too many ostriches. Why are there so many ostriches? The brochure said there would only be a few ostriches. This is a terrible vacation!"

by DevilRayRomano on Mar 31, 2008 11:03 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

law school. very lame

by Albertrayon on Mar 31, 2008 11:04 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

ahh, thats crappy. You think they'd trust law students, especially the level of schooling that it is. I'd think that if students wanted to do that anyway, thats their own choice.

"There's way too many ostriches. Why are there so many ostriches? The brochure said there would only be a few ostriches. This is a terrible vacation!"

by DevilRayRomano on Mar 31, 2008 11:07 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

That's really ignorant

Really ignorant. Hmm, now who would possibly have a use for wireless internet in a law school. People are going to stray off from "legitimate uses" on any internet connection that is widely used, that's just the facts. And if people weren't doing it with the internets, they would be doing it with solitare or the crossword puzzle. This type of thing has taken place for years, it isn't anything that sprung up following the advent of the internets, and by taking away usage for all, you're depriving people with legitimate uses from becoming more productive in their education.

That isn't to say that I'm faulting any of you that do check baseball sites or other places in lieu of "appropriate uses". I do it all the time at my school, because it's just human nature to seek amusement when you are bored out of your mind, and that happens all too frequently at schools. It will happen, and there is a certain amount of it that you just have to tolerate if you are the administration.

by Patrick L. Kennedy on Mar 31, 2008 11:14 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Fact

this is better. It keeps me quiet and I don't bother anyone else. Before I was on my laptop my friends and I would seek amusement by using a fart noise machine or throwing skittles at the teacher or counting the amount of "mmkays" the teacher said.

by SRQman on Mar 31, 2008 11:18 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I really dont think getting rid of the internet access is going to change anything, like its been stated, they will just find some other sort of distraction if they really seek it. I would think as law students though, they would want to pay attention more so, to succeed better
