How About Dan Johnson as DH replacement for Floyd
Could we find another possible diamond in the ruff and take a waiver claim on Dan Johnson of the A's? He could work as a DH against Right Handers and take the spot that Floyd was working in. We would have enough time to see how he does while Cliff gets healed up. Don't really have to gamble much if we can get him on waivers. Our platoon system could work like this: Gomes at DH and Ruggo at RF against lefties with Dan Johnson at DH and Hinske at RF against Righties. I have to admit that Haynes has looked pretty bad at the plate, he could be waived to make room with Ruggo getting to play the bare minimum in CF if BJ needs a rest. Ruggo would be the spot starter at all 3 outfield positions until Zobrist gets back up and then several guys could take turns. I think Ruggo is acceptable in CF for the few times we will need someone. What do we think?

I'm down for it, but keep in mind his history...
Torn hip labrum, and self inflicted double vision, which really messed him up.
If you want results, press the red button. The rest are useless.

dan johnson stinks
he's not all that young, has no real upside that i can see, and can only play DH. i will pass.

Pass
Lets let Gomes/Hinskie share that duty for a while. Both are hitting the ball very well right now. As David said, Johnson doesn't off much to the team that we don't already have.

Nah...
I'll pass as well. In my mind, we already have a ridiculous amount of depth and there's no need for us to panic at this stage and fill up our roster with random signings. I think Hinske, Gomes, and Ruggo are a solid combination in the outfield. If nothing else, all three of them deserve shots to prove what they can do when given a legitimate number of at bats this season. Remember, we're still not shooting for the division this year. Maybe in the short term Dan Johnson would be nice, but why block the way for guys like Ruggo? Let the guys play...

I'd pass as well
Looking more down the road, what does Johnson offer? Not the kind of depth the team needs. If he could be gotten on a minors deal and stashed in Durham, worked at 1B as a backup in case of Pena injury, fine. But even there he's merely a younger Richard that can't play the OF.
He might fit better in '09 if Floyd disappoints, but there's every chance he'll be available at that point if desired. I think Haynes, as bad as he's looked, offers more in terms of defensive insurance, and if gotten through waivers at some point could be a better option then some of the other and older lefty OF's at AAA.
But we're talking about the 25th guy or AAA depth. With how tight the roster is, adding is tough.
