Do we match up with the Rangers?
They are getting nothing much out of their DH and 1B positions and I wonder if they might entertain a trade for Dan Johnson or one of our other DH/1B types that we have. We could wait and see what we think of Dan Johnson and decide who if anyone we might want to dangle as trade bait. We could even consider trading a starting pitcher since their pitching is also considered a pretty strong weakness.
My Trade: Dan Johnson or Chris Mason for Nelson Cruz straight up!
We get our RF and they get either a 1B/DH type or a prospect starting pitcher
I think we will make a trade for someone by the middle of May
My top 3 RF trade targets: 1. Balentien 2. Cruz 3. Murton

What about Hinske + Jackson for a catcher?

Sounds like a possibility, actually
Not sure if Daniels and Friedman would do it, though

Hinske/Jackson?
If you are referring to the Rangers Catchers then I would be very interested in Max Ramirez and he is up to AA at the moment. To get him we would have to offer up both of the above mentioned but I think we need a RF before we need another catcher especially a young guy like Ramirez that won’t get to the bigs for 1 1/2 years or so. I really have liked Hinske so far and would hate to lose him but if Dan Johnson does really well we have a redundance there except the fact than Hinske can play 3B and the corner OF positions when needed. I think I would keep our focus on RF and Nelson Cruz for now.

Why would the Rangers want to trade for Johnson
When they could have had him for free last week?

We have the 1st claim position
Since we have the 1st claim position we could have beaten them to the punch! Neither team may have wanted to trade a player that the A’s may have wanted to get Dan Johnson or the match between the A’s and Rangers may have not been there. Furthermore, I think the Rangers would rather have a Right Handed bat which would be Jon Gomes anyway. Might we make that deal? Possibly, its hard to understand just what the front office thinks in regards to Jon and his future long term with us. That doesn’t mean that we don’t match up with the Rangers (especially since we are not in the same division) and might be able to work something out.

1st claim position
I’m not familiar with how that works, but my guess is we get that b/c of our draft slot? I’ve usually heard that waivers are an open process, but then again i’ve just heard and you probably know. If you could just clear that up for me i’d appreciate it. Also we could sign SAMMY SOSA and platoon him with Floyd and finally give Gomes a chance to play RF daily…JK
IF only Harry Carey could be arounde for Kosuke.
