Hunsicker: Rays Will Spend If In Playoff Hunt
“Let’s not get too carried away, this business humbles you in a hurry, and we all know that…so we take it the old preverbal, ‘A Game at a Time’ and try and keep this momentum going…this ownership has made a commitment to putting a winning product on the field, I would sense if we are fortunate enough to continue this trend and get deep enough into this season or any season and where we have a legitimate chance to compete, within reason, we’ll have the M.O. to try and help things..” - Gerry Hunsicker says Tampa Bay will spend money if they are in a playoff race

I wouldn't expect anything less
Given how the organization has conducted itself.

Of course they'd spend some money.
But as he says “let’s not get carried away, this business humbles you in a hurry,” Which it will… Gerry’s right. the team does need to take it “a game at a time” almost all of the wins in that 6 game win streak were their own separate battles. take the 2-1 win over boston for example.. they held them to 1 run all game and aki showed up in the clutch.. The past years i’ve followed the rays they have never won those types of games. If they start looking at sweeping series’ and making playoff runs I think that they’ll have a hard time finishing games and winning in clutch situations.

We are in great position to do so
Considering the young arms we have we are in the best position in all of baseball to make a big mid-season trade. I don’t know who we would go after (RF, SS, DH). Just a name I wouldn’t mind seeing us make a move for would be Jason Bay in Pittsburgh. I don’t know the financials but if we throw a couple of young pitchers (Mcgee, Jackson) along with Perez or Ruggiano I think we could get him.

Bye Jonny
Looks like you’ll be delegated to RF platoon-only duty.
If we acquired Bay, he’d almost be a DH-only unless he suddenly becomes the bionic man playing on the turf.

Barry Bonds plays RF
At this point I think he’d play for peanuts. Make him an offer!

I don't want Jason Bay, gimpy knees on turf isn't going to work, and he doesn't even play right.
