rotation now?
i think that andy should stay in the rotation and jason hammel should be moved to the bullpen and they option jp howell to the minors and they should just go to the rotation that all of us though they would break camp with kaz, shields, garza, sonnanstine, and jackson (for now)

Chair through wall if Sonny/Garza/Howell go down.

Seriously?
Yeah, I’ve read enough to know you don’t like E-Jax, but Garza really has been the least successful pitcher thus far. I’m not saying he doesn’t belong in the majors, but the overall quality of performances by Jackson, Sonny, and Hammel have left the Rays with a pitching glut. Garza seems to make the most sense to me to either move to the bullpen or send to the minors while we figure out a way to trade away Jackson or Hammel. Hammel’s comment that the return of Kazmir affected his performance goes a long way with me not minding him moving on; if with the way he was pitching before he was actually concerned about losing his job, I sure as hell don’t want to see him starting for the Rays in a playoff game.

Garza is a top pitching prospect
And has already had major league success with the Twins. He has made exactly four starts due to injury, and there is no reason to remove him from the rotation with so small a sample size.

Forgive me if I’m wrong, but the way that reads, it appears you’re weighing future potential versus current performance. If that is the case however, I as a fan am sick of it. I want this team to field the most competitive team it can. Garza wasn’t that good in Spring Training, and that continued into his first two starts of the season through his first start off the DL; yesterday was his first good start. Potential and injury aside, Garza has been the least effective starter thus far, and sending him down would be the most convenient and effective way to resolve the glut.
Of course, I seriously doubt it will happen because as has been noted elsewhere, he was the centerpiece of the Young trade, and now since Gary Glover is being reported as possibly headed for the DL, they can move whoever they choose to the bullpen.

I don’t think it reads that way at all. To me it reads that Garza has been a better pitcher than Hammel in their short careers in the majors, and that 4 starts this year, interrupted by an injury, should not override the longer history, or the consensus view that he is currently a better pitcher, in making a decision.
Keeping Garza in the rotation at the expense of Hammel is entirely consistent with fielding the most competitive team possible.

Also...
Is it just me or does Garza’s start tonight mean a heck of a lot? If he pitches horribly, I could see him being sent down for a bit, scarily enough. His numbers haven’t been great at all yet this year and since he has options, it’d be a “justifiable” move. If he pitches well, though, I don’t think there’s any way he’s going down. I really don’t want him sent down, so hopefully that doesn’t happen.
I’m just really hoping for a miracle, last-minute-before-Kaz-gets-back trade to get rid of EJax at this point.

From Cater Gaddis
I found this amusing:
“Oh, and by the way … if Andy Sonnanstine is bumped from the rotation when Scott Kazmir comes back on Sunday, I’ll eat Marc Lancaster’s Blackberry.”

Yeah
Sorry about that. I put up a half-ass version during my lunch hour, but I haven’t had a lot of free time over the last couple days. My priorities have at least been getting the game stuff up and keeping the sidebars updated.
