4/6: News & Notes

  • C Josh Paul has been signed to a minor league deal by the Houston Astros, and will report to their AAA Round Rock affiliate. Speculation had mounted that Paul would be signed yet again by the Rays to back up Hector Gimenez in Durham since Mike DiFelice was called up to the major leagues.
  • Seattle Mariners LHP Erik Bedard was scratched from his scheduled start this afternoon in Baltimore due to hip problems, which is not good news for the Rays. Instead of starting on Sunday against his former team, Bedard will take the hill for Seattle on Tuesday in the Rays' home opener.
  • Marc Lancaster of the Tampa Tribune reports that Rays owner Stu Sternberg told the media on Sunday afternoon that Tuesday's home opener is nearly sold out. He commented that the designation will be made official tomorrow.
