How Soon Until We See Dale Thayer
Not to trash any member of the rays, but I have little-to-no faith in Doh'mann being a dependable major league pitcher, Glover is average, Miller SHOULD be a 1 batter specialist (not a full inning guy), and Reyes obviously wears down as the year goes on. Now, I am not saying that things won't go swimmingly, but Thayer seems he could be a very good presence out of the pen, and really add a youthful arm. He spent most of last year in AA and pretty much dominated, ERA of 2.26 and a whip just at 1.01. Then he moves to AAA , and though he only got 9 innings in, he lowered his whip to .96. This is a guy with a minor league line of 2.95 bb/9, 9.32 k/9, and a whip of 1.11, with an ERA of 2.24. He's only pitched 2.2 innings this year, but so far has been stellar.
So I ask, how long will it be until we see this guy? I know we have a decent bullpen, but Miller/Dohmann/Glover/ hell even Reyes, all look like just major league average pitchers, Thayer seems like he has a chance to be a real shut down guy for us.

His stuff likely wouldn't translate well toe the bigs.

what makes you say that?
he's got a very lively fast ball, and a great slider when he can command it, as he seems to be able to do. as a reliever, how many plus pitches do you want him to have?
That's just what I've heard is that his stuff isn't made for the bigs.

Yeah
It's "fringey" from most accounts.
Didn't expect much, anyways, when we traded Branyan for 2 prospects anyways.
and yet...
toy guys are sky high on sonnanstine, and down in the dumps over jackson...
don't put too much stock into a guys "stuff". it means little if he knows how to pitch.
Speaking of Dale Thayer, poor Evan Meek is getting popped around pretty good as a major leaguer with the Pirates.
Speaking of Evan Meek
Holy Cow! Did you see his breakdown against the Cubbies? He is supposed to stay with the Pirates all year or be offered back to the Rays. I'm not sure I'd want him!
Should never have been invited back

I have no great confidence in either pitcher, but I don't think last night proved anything about them. They are middle inning relievers who will occasionally give up runs but so far seem able to contain things. You don't want them in when the score is tight as it was last night, but there was little choice and it is unlikely too many other pitchers for that role are better.
As a matter of fact, neither was really hit hard. Glover's run came in on a double, ground out and a sacrifice fly while Dohmann gave his up on 2 singles and a bloop hit off the handle, set up by Riggans not calling the time out so that the runner on first took second and the intentional walk loaded the bases.
Neither did his job last night, but neither has been knocked around either. Glover was perfect in his first two outings and imperfect last night. Dohmann was fine in his first two outings and then got hit a bit by the Yankees and had some bad luck last night.
I like Calvin Medlock
better than Dale Thayer. And Mitch Talbot better than both of them, since with the depth we have I doubt he never starts a game for the big-league club.
Hey, Kevin
Long time, no see. Glad to see you posting here again. Hopefully it keeps up.

If you've ever seen Thayer pitch
You'd see why he is a AAAA reliever. I'm not sure where the plus grades are coming from on his pitches because I've seen him pitch twice and I didn't see anything plus outside of his ability to locate. His fastball struggled to reach 90 and it looked straight

DALE THAYER
IVE BEEN GOOD FRIENDS WITH DALE SINCE 8TH GRADE. ITS A JOKE THAT HE HAS NOT GOT A SHOT IN THE MAJORS YET. HE HAS DOMINATED AT EVERY LEVEL AND WILL IN THE BIG LEAGUES. HE HAS A REFUSE TO LOSE ATTITUDE AND THAT DOSENT ONLY HAVE TO DO WITH BASEBALL. HE IS THE MOST COMPETITIVE PERSON I HAVE EVER MET. IF YOU PLAYED HIM IN TIC TAC TOE HE WOULD NOT LET YOU WIN. YOU WILL ALL BE VERY PLEASED ONCE HE GETS HIS CHANCE. PEACE
Dude, caps lock, please.

and i have to agree. he has dominated every level. not succeeded, but dominated. he'll get his shot soon, hopefully.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY
I GREATLY APPRECIATE THE PERSONAL INSIGHT YOU HAVE TO OFFER ON THAYER, AND I HOPE HE HAS A SUCCESSFUL MAJOR LEAGUE CAREER, WHETHER HERE OR ELSEWHERE.
