Leo Mazzone is job hunting!?
Why haven't we called this guy? I didn't think we were that sold on Hickey and only kept him after his DUI for continuity reasons.
I mean lets face if you have the choice of Hickey or Mazzone I bet just about everyone would want to take Leo. I am sure Leo would be willing to come here just to work with all the talent that we have.
I also wouldn't think you would have to worry about Leo getting a DUI seeing how long he has kept his nose clean in MLB for around 40 seasons.

I guess you haven't seen our defense this year?
Mazzone has a rap for not working well with young pitchers, for what it’s worth.

DING DING, POINT FOR RJ
He couldn’t do anything with the Orioles….

Not many can.
I wouldn’t pin all of the troubles on him, but I also don’t pin all of the Braves’ success on him. I think he’s an above average pitching coach, but many have sang Hickey’s praises from his days in the Houston system.
Plus, Xavier Hernandez should be next in line.

Above Average?
I’m all about sticking with Hickey, but give the guy his due. He may end up the first Hall of Fame coach (non-manager) ever.

That would be above average. ;)
He’s likely the greatest PC of all time, but I just don’t know how big of a difference each PC makes. Is Bud Black THAT much better than Mike Butcher?

Rick Peterson would have something to say about the greatest of all time.

What are you smoking?
Are we talking about the same Rick Peterson who claimed to be able to fix Victor Zambrano in 5 minutes?

Umm...
He’s not Dr. James Andrews. Him fixing him was predicated on the fact that his arm was in tact, which it wasn’t. There was nothing he could do to make his UCL one piece again.
And Rick Peterson is the best in the business.

How about Dave Duncan?
Though both his sons are craptastic glorified bench players, he’s one of the best in the business.
Rick Peterson’s success is only limited to his Oakland A’s body of work, in my opinion. He, apparently, is the only PC that can get through to Barry Zito.

Mazzone did an OK job with the young guys in Atlanta
“In his book, The Baseball Economist J.C. Bradbury titles a chapter, “How Good is Leo Mazzone?” Using statistical analysis, he analyzes whether Mazzone had a significant impact upon the pitchers that he coached. The sample is all pitchers who have pitched at least one year under Mazzone and one year under a different pitching coach. Bradbury found that Mazzone lowered the ERA of pitchers by an average of .64 points, and that after leaving Mazzone, pitchers’ ERA increased by an average of .78 points. Bradbury believes that such an impact is deserving of Hall of Fame consideration.”
