He’s had that change since early 06. I remember the first game he used it extensively, he dominated. It was the point when I was sure he was going to be an ace if he stayed healthy.

Thank you, now your contract was really worth it!

Dear Scotty,

Learn something, for once, from James Shields. He doesn’t have your fastball, doesn’t have your potential, but he’s got 1 devastating pitch and doesn’t walk people. He got a long-term deal, for doing that. Stop being a brat, please.

Sincerely,
Jake

Dear Jake,

No, he doesn’t BB people, i do from time to time. But he signed a deal that guaranteed him 14 million dollars. If he’s really good, he’ll make 40. I’m going to make about 20 million over the next 3 seasons and then I’m going to sign a deal for around 100 million dollars.

Maybe he should walk a few more people. It’s working out pretty well for me!

Sincerely,

Scott Kazmir

And you don’t drop it because you can’t. You can’t miss the ball on purpose on an IF fly, they’d call the play dead.

I'm pretty sure

on a play where there is not an IF fly, you can’t drop a ball on purpose to turn a DP, but I’m not positive.

Say there’s a soft line drive to second, he knocks it down instead of catching it, the umpire can rule the play dead and the batter out I think. It’s a bush league play, so you don’t see it in the bigs.

Yeah, that sounds right.

That’s one of the thing we were discussing. I know that if someone knocks one down then it can be called dead, batter out. I think the purpose of an infield fly is too prevent the umps from having to make a judgment call and just calling the batter out no matter what.

It’s getting more and more difficult to keep expectations in check. What a terrible problem!

Longlorious.

All about the defense.

It’s really tough to find a quantitative measure of how valuable the defense has been, but they’ve been simply amazing. Pena’s play, the Bartlett-Aki DP, and the speed in left and center definitely saved some runs.
