Buster Posey Plays 'em All

He went 1-3 with a slam and a couple walks.  It seems as if the closer we get to the draft the closer we get to Posey going #1.

Wow! Pretty impressive!!

Unreal! I can’t believe he played all nine positions. Apparently he can close a game too, saving 4 of 5 games. I think I’m sold on this guy. He’s batting .467 with 16 HR and 66 RBI. If he bats half as good as this he’ll be an upgrade to Navi. I know Navarro is putting up great numbers, but how long will it last? I would be ecstatic if he does, but to have a young guy behind the plate with a player of Posey’s ability would be sweet. Let work the minor league system for a year or two then bring him up.

I talked bad about Posey in other posts, but after reading more on him and watching the numbers he is putting up, I can definitely say that I would be happy if we picked him. I still personally like Pedro Alvarea and Tim Beckham.

Why Alvarez?

You realize that he’s had Hamate bone surgery, which is hard to pin-point when it’s fully rehabbed. Look at Ryan Zimmerman and a few others(Jose Tabata or Fernando Martinez, for that matter) to see how hard it is to determine how they hit post-surgery.

As for Beckham, I’d like to see his K totals in HS and actual video. Some people say that he doesn’t always make the most fundamental plays on balls(kinda as if he isn’t fully confident in himself)

Impressive

I still don’t know who I would pick but I believe the team has the right people there to make a good decision.

It’s only their second puff-ball weekend series.

It’s an odd time of the season for a non-conference cupcake. Just curious.

Longlorious.

I saw some of the game.

Let’s remember that he was batting against a pitcher who was awful. I think he had given up 6 walks (one to Posey) as well as a triple and the grand slam in the first 1.1 innings. As a matter of fact, the game ended in the 7th because of the 10 run rule. In that inning, Posey looked terrible striking out, two swings on pitches in the dirt and away. Remember too that he is hitting with an aluminum bat.

That said, the home run was a blast to the opposite field on a low, away fastball and traveled over a 35’ screen.

Apparently it was Buster Posey day so they pulled the stunt of him playing every position. By the 6th, it became clear the game might end early due to the 10 run rule, so that inning he played both LF and CF and then pitched to two batters in the 7th before finishing the inning and game in RF. I only saw him play first where all he had to do was catch some regular throws.

The announcers said he began his college career as a star shortstop. He does look lithe enough. As for his pitching, seemed to me he throws hard. He did strike out both men he faced, but I think they swung at some questionable pitches up, and he missed badly with a few pitches. As far as I could tell, he only threw fastballs although there was some talk that he did have a slider.

Mike Martin

said he’s his best defensive player at every position. He’s a great athlete!

He was throwing the slider (pretty slurvy, 77 or so mph) when he closed a 1-run game vs. Clemson.

4.0 GPA as well

That goes a long way in the character/make-up department.
