Posey plays all nine positions, hits grand slam

This is pretty high praise!

Talk about a super utility player. Facing two batters and getting two K's is pretty good for a catcher. Granted they were playing Savannah State. It is a pretty neat accomplishment considering the players that have come out of FSU. J.D and Stephen Drew are a couple recent examples.

I would be careful

about overemphasizing how terrific he was. He was facing a pitcher with nothing. In the 1.1 innings I saw to start the game he walked 6 batters and gave up a triple and the grand slam. (I thought it was a low, away fastball, but I guess not.) And he is using an aluminum bat; I think the Seminoles hit something like 12 home runs in the series against Savannah State. (That might be an exaggeration, but I am not sure it is.)

Still, the home run was an opposite field bomb over a 35’ screen in right field. And he did have to go down to get it.

As for the pitching, as far as I could tell he threw only fastballs and was missing badly with some of them. The two batters seemed to me to swing at a couple of questionable pitches, up and away. Apparently he does throw a slider as well, and may have shown a couple in his mound time, but I am not sure.

He was an all-conference (or something like that) shortstop as a freshman and does look lithe enough to play there.

Savannah State is pretty bad

But in an effort to prove I don’t hate FSU, I’ll say Stephen Drew had one of the consistently prettiest swings I’ve ever seen from a college baseball player. I’m interested to see Posey in the post-season, starting in a week.

Longlorious.

Oh yes

In his last at bat, Posey looked really bad striking out swinging at two balls in the dirt and way outside.
