Should the Rays try to trade for Griffey Jr?
If so, at what cost? First of all, he would have to want to play here (which I think he might). He says he wants to win a World Series and I don't want to get ahead of myself but if we were to trade for Junior Griffey I believe that he could be the guy who could lead us to the promised land.
Second, what would the Reds want? And would we give in to the probable high demand to aquire him? We certainly have any combination of prosects/players the Reds would seek and could accommadate any offer. I know he's 38, but I think he'd possibly resurrect his career by going back to the AL and playing in a dome.

Griffey has Already Made the Move To Right
And hasn’t done so particularly well. I respect Griffey, and think he’s a first ballot HOF-er, but I say PASS!

OK...
I know Griffey is 38. And by no means do I mean that he’s the savior but I just think it would be a great fit and for him to be traded back to an American League team. This is probably the only way he plays for 2-3 more years., maybe longer if he DH’s He also knows the area well while playing Spring Training games in Sarasota. Just a thought.

Forget Griffey
If I’m going to trade for a power hitting Reds outfielder I’m going for The Big Donkey!

OK, So we don't trade for Griffey.....
But do we stick with Floyd/Gomes/GrossHinske? I know it’s been working pretty good. I was just hoping to have a bonefide All Star in RF. It could screw up the team’s chemistry though.

Griffey isn't an all-star anymore except in name.

But do we stick with Gomes/Gross/Hinske?
Yes. To this point, they have not been the problem and while Hinske’s numbers may retreat a little, Gomes and Gross should improve.
At this point, all three of them have higher OPS than Pena (700), Iwamura (691), Longoria (690), Crawford (688) and Bartlett (546).
If /when those guys get on track, I think the ongoing concern about right field will diminish. But please, get those bats going soon.
Longlorious.

Huh
So I guess last year’s stats of 30 HR and 93 RBI don’t mean much (in Cincy no less)? Last I checked he did participate in 2007 All Star game. I surely guarantee none of the foursome we have working RF are going to be All Stars. I mean, I know there are other players that are better RJ, I’m just saying it would appear to be a good fit. I think he’d find his stroke playing in an AL dome.

All Star bids mean nothing to me.
But “In Cincy no less”, you realize that’s a hitters’ park, right? You also realize that on the road his OPS was .802, right? Or that he hit .735 versus LHP, right?
Putting him on turf isn’t a smart idea either, and Walt Jocketty doesn’t just deal with everyone.

No chance
1. Wont slim down contract to fit Tampa’s standards.
2. Upton is doing well in the outfield, his offense hasnt shown up yet but has been doing well defensively.
3. Moving him to right field would mean we just got Gross for no reason.

BJ's power hasn't shown up, otherwise he's hitting fine.

Pass
I don’t see the benefit but expect the cost to be high. He cannot field and while a change of scenery might get him started again, he is playing poorly this year. Additionally, as there have been numerous comments on Rays’ blogs about the need to have good character guys here, there is no way to claim that and want Griffey. He has been a whining baby all his career according to reports probably more reliable, because less vindictive, than those that accuse Bonds of being a poor clubhouse guy.
To the extent we think fan perceptions are credible, here is one that I have seen echoed in a number of places. This one is from a comment on a link at BTF:
“BTW, it was nauseating to watch Griffey and his mild weak don’t care infield tap outs and to see him lope down to first. He’s lazy & I’m sick of seeing him. Seems that Homer caught Griffeyism. Get rid of the Griffey cancer ASAP! He’s toast and cares not a bit. Truly, a faded star.”

No to Griffey
Unless I’m a Mariners fan again…this invasion is confusing my sense of loyalty…
Someone say something witty.
